An attorney for boxer James Kirkland has made public the pugilist's desire to leave SMS boxing promotions, the company owned by rapper 50 Cent. Kirkland's attorney Mike Miller stated to the Boxing Scene website, "We're just trying to get in touch with 50's bankruptcy attorney. He won't return our phone calls to figure out what plans they have for James Kirkland. Our contract is un-assignable so he can't assign our contract to a new company or anybody else. Really I don't know what leg they have to stand on to retain our contract. I don't want to waste a hundred twenty days to find out. I'm trying to get some dialogue going to see if we can reach a mutual agreement that Kirkland goes his way and 50 goes his way and we both move on."

50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, recently filed for bankruptcy on two fronts. 50 Cent filed for personal bankruptcy, as well as for his fledgling company SMS. This means boxers could experience significant difficulties getting paid by SMS, if at all, as bankruptcy protection can wipe out some debts, such as what 50 Cent's company owes fighters. They could end up fighting and not getting paid the purse or not receiving money due to them for past fights.

Hanging around Floyd Mayweather, who is the richest boxer in the world, had 50 Cent thinking the boxing industry is easy with huge paydays all over the place. However, the actual reality of the sport is it requires years of hard work, patience, skill and a keen understanding of the business. It is not an easy one.

Promoters also need good instincts, not just for business, but in fight making. Not only should you be able to scout and sign great talent, you also do not put your boxer in fights they are clearly not ready for. I love boxers, God bless them, they are brave and fearless, but sometimes some pugilists will be on the "I'll fight anybody, anywhere at any time" vibe and you kindly look at them and think, "No, boo boo, you're not ready yet (LOL)." It's not an insult, it's skill matching, paired with assessing the mental and physical state of your fighter at the time.

A good promoter can tell such things. A novice will not be able to tell. And 50 Cent is a novice, as he put Kirkland in with boxing beast Canelo Alvarez and it damaged his career and confidence, when the latter unleashed a potent knockout. However, Kirkland and Alvarez are great fighters and it is not an insult to either. Sometimes boxers are at a bad place in their personal lives and or struggling with injury and it negatively impacts their performance in the ring. Kirkland was experiencing personal problems, changes and injury. He didn't need such a huge fight after all those problems and a layoff.   

In closing, if you're a boxer and have the opportunity to sign with a big, experienced boxing promotions company such as Top Rank, Golden Boy, Mayweather Promotions, Matchroom or Frank Warren or get the chance to work with a veteran manager like Al Haymon, do so. Make sure you sign with people who know boxing or you will have problems and not reach your full potential in the ring or at the bank.

Rising British boxing star, Anthony Crolla, was viciously attacked in a home invasion near his property in Manchester, England. It is thought he stumbled upon a burglary happening in the vicinity of his property. Crolla was due to fight fellow boxer, Richar Abril, in January 2015 for the WBA lightweight title, but due to the severe head injury and broken ankle he sustained in the burglary, the fight has been cancelled. Crolla was hospitalized with a fractured skull, after he was hit over the head with a concrete slab. The Judiciary Report wishes him a speedy recovery.

Crolla is the second Matchroom boxer to be attacked in the past few months, in what is a disturbing pattern. He is also the third boxer to be attacked in the past few months, in acts that resulted in the cancellation of a Matchroom fight. Boxers, Kell Brook and Jamie Moore, were attacked in Spain in separate incidents, while on vacation. Now Crolla has been attacked at home. One has to wonder if the company is being targeted due to its success and rising status in the boxing world. Be safe.

In the August 9, 2014 article, Boxer Shot Five Times In Gangster Attack Leading To Postponement Of Show, the Judiciary Report wrote about the shooting of well-liked English boxer, Jamie Moore, who was shot 5 times in a hit whilst on vacation in Spain at the home of the son of drug kingpin, Christy Kinahan. Some called it a case of mistaken identity. The criminal remains at large. It derailed and delayed the Matchroom Boxing fight Moore's boxer, Matthew Macklin, was scheduled to participate it.

One month later, the newly crowned IBF welterweight champion of the world, Kell Brook, was stabbed in the leg while on vacation in Spain, leading to significant blood loss and hospitalization. The criminal remains at large. It mirrored the unprovoked attack on Moore. It has also resulted in the cancellation of Brook's Matchroom Boxing title defense fight that was scheduled for December 6, 2014.

Ironically, days before the attack on affable Brook, on August 31, 2014, the Sun Newspaper reported, rival boxer Amir Khan had posted a photo of a knife accompanied by the caption "I won't kill him. But I'll watch him die." It provoked outrage online, due to ISIS beheadings, prompting Khan to delete the post. However, the Judiciary Report is not of the belief Khan had anything to do with Brook's stabbing.

Is someone targeting people associated with Matchroom Boxing fights. The 30-year-old company has experienced a resurgence this year, with a number of high profile sold out shows in Britain and victories in Europe and the United States, which has significantly raised its profile in the press and boxing world. These attacks need to stop, as boxers don't deserve this type of treatment, especially after all the risks they take going into the ring and putting their physical health on the line.

Britain's Kell Brook defeated boxer Shawn Porter to win the IBF middleweight title in California this past Saturday. Brook, who is half English and half Jamaican, was thrilled with his victory, defeating Porter 11-114, 117-111, 116-112. Brook is undefeated, with his record standing at 33-0 (22 knockouts).

This definitive win puts 29-year-old Brook inline to fight British rival Amir Khan. As some of you may remember, months ago the Judiciary Report wrote about the social networking war between Brook and Khan. Brook challenged Khan to a fight, with his promoter Matchroom Boxing, offering the latter $5,000,000 to get in the ring against their pugilist in Britain. 

However, Khan was holding out for a fight against top dog Floyd Mayweather and frowned at fighting Brook. The Twitter war turned ugly. King Khan stated Brook was not an international boxer and labeled the fight too domestic. This prompted Brook to call his rival Queen Khan and label him someone running from a fight.

Then Mayweather turned around and did to Khan what he did to Brook, snubbing a fight with him as too small. Mayweather fought and defeated Marcos "Chino" Maidana and is set for a rematch on September 13, 2014 (Amir Khan Doing To Kell Brook What Floyd Mayweather Did To Him). For Khan, waiting on Mayweather has been like waiting on a unicorn, a fairytale.

Brook's definitive win and status as IBF champ puts him inline to fight Khan, who can no longer state the rival from his homeland is not international. Brook stated after his win, "The British public want it. He'll probably say I need to win another title for the fight. I know he doesn't like me. The fact is, he is getting it. I'm the champ of the world." 

It's your move Amir. Kell called you out again. It's time to defend your skills as a boxer and give the British people a big show. Think of it as national pride. Not to mention, Froch v. Groves in London sold 80,000 tickets this summer. There is a big market in Blighty.

Former European boxing champion turned trainer, Jamie Moore, 35, who hails from Manchester, England, was shot five times while on vacation in Spain. Moore was vacationing at the $3,000,000 mansion of gangster, Daniel Kinahan, who is the son of Irish cocaine drug kingpin, Christy Kinahan. Reports indicate it was a case of mistaken identity, as Moore was "kneecapped" with two of the bullets hitting each leg. 

Moore was training Irish boxer, Matthew Macklin, who was set to headline a sold out Matchroom Boxing show in Dublin, Ireland on August 30, 2014. The show has now been postponed. Moore took to Twitter and stated, "It's at times like this that you realise how well your thought of. I've had unbelievable support. Means a lot it really does. Thanks for all the well wishes. Overwhelmed. Gutted and confused about what happened, but thank God I'm ok."

This incident is another example of how unpredictable sports can be for money and the importance to save one's earnings. Moore quit boxing in 2010 after a doctor informed him a routine scan had revealed changes in his brain. Just like that, his boxing career had come to an end, right before he was in contention for a world title. 

A second example of how unpredictable sports can be for many, the aforementioned shooting has delayed and possibly destroyed a payday for all the boxers on the postponed "Return Of The Mack" boxing bill in Dublin that was scheduled for August 30, 2014. 

Once again, this is why the Judiciary Report has repeatedly emphasized in articles that athletes (and entertainers) in general, should save their money, spend wisely and seek sound business choices, as anything can happen. 

British Boxer George Groves Is Managing Himself Ahead Of Big Froch v. Groves Fight

British boxer George Groves, is scheduled for a May 31, 2014 rematch against champion Carl Froch, in London’s legendary Wembley stadium. Taking a page from the Floyd Mayweather school of boxing, Groves has decided to take a more hands on approach to his career. Groves applied for a boxing license in Britain to become his own manager, in a move that has been granted by the commission. Groves, presumably with the help of a lawyer, is negotiating his own contracts. 

Groves stated of the bold move, "I may not be the smartest man in west London but I do know that an 80,000 crowd brings in £5million. Then there's the television and so on. So I'm not going to accept £100,000 or £1m." Groves was reportedly offered $1,600,000 to fight Matchroom boxer, Froch, but held out for more. As an athlete, you have to earn all you can while you can, especially in sports like boxing and football, where injuries can really sideline careers.

If Groves is of the belief he has the acumen to be his own manager and make the most astute, financially savvy and sound decisions, why not. He will make more money in doing so, provided he pursues the right deals inside and outside the ring. Froch v. Groves, in addition to the undercard featuring boxers like gold medalist Anthony Joshua, promises to be an interesting and entertaining night of boxing.

April 4, 2014 - George Groves has applied for a manager's licence from boxing's authorities because he doesn't trust anyone to look after him following his controversial fight with Carl Froch. Londoner Groves was unhappy after being stopped by referee Howard Foster in the ninth round at the Manchester Arena and battled hard to secure a rematch, set to take place at Wembley Stadium on May 31.

It took a protest to the International Boxing Federation in New York to force another world super middleweight title bout - and it led to Groves deciding that he is better off sorting out his own business. "He's in a bad place" George Groves believes he has the psychological advantage over Carl Froch as the pair prepare for their rematch at Wembley. "I know I would have beaten him the first time if it hadn't been improperly stopped," he told talkSPORT." Now there's no way Carl can beat me.

"He says he can't even stand to hear my name spoken and he can't look at me for the stare-down photographs which are part of being a professional and selling a fight. "He's seeking help from a sports psychologist because he's in a bad place." "You have to have a manager to be a boxer and you can no longer just appoint yourself as your own manager like the old days," he explained to the Daily Mail. "So I formally applied to the British Boxing Board of Control for a manager's licence.

"It's taken a while because first they said I hadn't done the form properly, then I hadn't sent the two photographs. But it's all done now. "I'm taking charge of my own business because I don't trust anyone at the moment." Promoter Eddie Hearn reportedly offered Groves £1 million for the Froch rematch, but Groves wasn't interested as interest in the fight hit fever pitch...

British boxer Amir Khan’s perseverance has paid off. The world’s most famous boxer in competition, Floyd Mayweather, scrapped a fan poll result stating he should fight Khan next, choosing Argentinean Marcos Maidana in his stead. Khan went ballistic on Twitter like he was on "The Real Housewives Of Atlanta" when he found out what Mayweather had done. Amir was acting black on Twitter. Though he's not black, Amir had a black moment during that meltdown. For real Amir, you were on Twitter telling everybody off (LOL). I’m just saying…

This week, Mayweather has made a gesture in the way of making it up to him by including Khan on the undercard of his highly anticipated May 3, 2014 bout, which will give Amir the type of opportunity and exposure he seeks. Khan is scheduled to fight the exciting New York born Puerto Rican boxer, Luis Collazo, who has a good record, in what will be an interesting match up. Tickets for the fight, which began at $350.00 each, sold out within minutes. After the first few minutes of the tickets going on sale, the Ticketmaster website basically clowned you with a "searching" graphic, politely telling you to kick rocks, the event is sold out.

Khan had been offered $5,000,000 by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing to fight fellow Brit, Kell Brook, who is undefeated. Khan turned it down, while waiting for Mayweather. However, Khan can still fight Brook in London after the Collazo fight, giving the British people what they want. Matchroom’s Froch vs. Groves sold out within an hour, as 50,000 people snapped up the tickets. Therefore, there’s a strong British boxing market the Mancunian from Bolton, England could benefit from.

The highly anticipated boxing rematch between Carl Froch and George Groves sold out quickly yesterday afternoon. Froch was awarded the fight in a controversial decision against then undefeated Groves. Demand was so high, promoters are seeking to release 20,000 additional tickets at the venue. The press conference for the fight revealed tensions between the two men. Froch’s large, rough around the edges brother Lee, also had a threatening stance and tough words for the well-groomed and smartly attired Groves, who tried to take things in stride.

Things also didn’t get friendly during a photo call at Wembley, as Froch pushed Groves while repeatedly refusing to acknowledge his existence. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the fight before the fight. Froch’s brother continued his taunts, prompting Grove to state, “Who was talking to you sweetheart!” (LOL he was calling you a girl).

Annoyed by the attacks, Groves told promoter Eddie Hearn to handle it. However, Hearn, being the brave, courageous fearless promoter he is, laughed and quickly got out the way, determined not to accidentally get his butt kicked in any potential melee. It’s not everyday you see that kind of bravery *cough* self-preservation (just teasing).
