Tyson Fury Implies On Twitter Fellow Boxer Dereck Chisora Is Faking A Broken Hand To Get Out Of Fighting Him This Weekend

Yesterday, boxer Dereck Chisora made an announcement revealing he fractured his hand during sparring and will be unable to fight fellow pugilist, Tyson Fury on July 26, 2014 in Manchester, England. Chisora is seeking a postponement of their rematch, for at least one month.

Fury, who had gained weight, went through an intense and costly training camp in preparation for the fight, which would have netted him a solid pay day. Fury, angry over developments, took to Twitter and ripped Chisora. In a telling tweet, Fury stated he wants to see x-rays of Chisora's broken wrist.

Fury is not the only one who has expressed skepticism. The fight was being promoted by Frank Warren, whose rival, Eddie Hearn tweeted "surprise surprise" then deleted it. As stated yesterday, boxer Anthony Fowler also found it suspect. Chisora has not responded to these claims. In the meantime, Fury is said to be scrambling for a replacement and according to online reports, one will be announced within the next 48 hours. Will it be David Haye? David Price? Maybe even David Beckham (kidding).

British boxer George Groves, is scheduled for a May 31, 2014 rematch against champion Carl Froch, in London’s legendary Wembley stadium. Taking a page from the Floyd Mayweather school of boxing, Groves has decided to take a more hands on approach to his career. Groves applied for a boxing license in Britain to become his own manager, in a move that has been granted by the commission. Groves, presumably with the help of a lawyer, is negotiating his own contracts. 

Groves stated of the bold move, "I may not be the smartest man in west London but I do know that an 80,000 crowd brings in £5million. Then there's the television and so on. So I'm not going to accept £100,000 or £1m." Groves was reportedly offered $1,600,000 to fight Matchroom boxer, Froch, but held out for more. As an athlete, you have to earn all you can while you can, especially in sports like boxing and football, where injuries can really sideline careers.

If Groves is of the belief he has the acumen to be his own manager and make the most astute, financially savvy and sound decisions, why not. He will make more money in doing so, provided he pursues the right deals inside and outside the ring. Froch v. Groves, in addition to the undercard featuring boxers like gold medalist Anthony Joshua, promises to be an interesting and entertaining night of boxing.

April 4, 2014 - George Groves has applied for a manager's licence from boxing's authorities because he doesn't trust anyone to look after him following his controversial fight with Carl Froch. Londoner Groves was unhappy after being stopped by referee Howard Foster in the ninth round at the Manchester Arena and battled hard to secure a rematch, set to take place at Wembley Stadium on May 31.

It took a protest to the International Boxing Federation in New York to force another world super middleweight title bout - and it led to Groves deciding that he is better off sorting out his own business. "He's in a bad place" George Groves believes he has the psychological advantage over Carl Froch as the pair prepare for their rematch at Wembley. "I know I would have beaten him the first time if it hadn't been improperly stopped," he told talkSPORT." Now there's no way Carl can beat me.

"He says he can't even stand to hear my name spoken and he can't look at me for the stare-down photographs which are part of being a professional and selling a fight. "He's seeking help from a sports psychologist because he's in a bad place." "You have to have a manager to be a boxer and you can no longer just appoint yourself as your own manager like the old days," he explained to the Daily Mail. "So I formally applied to the British Boxing Board of Control for a manager's licence.

"It's taken a while because first they said I hadn't done the form properly, then I hadn't sent the two photographs. But it's all done now. "I'm taking charge of my own business because I don't trust anyone at the moment." Promoter Eddie Hearn reportedly offered Groves £1 million for the Froch rematch, but Groves wasn't interested as interest in the fight hit fever pitch...

British boxer Amir Khan’s perseverance has paid off. The world’s most famous boxer in competition, Floyd Mayweather, scrapped a fan poll result stating he should fight Khan next, choosing Argentinean Marcos Maidana in his stead. Khan went ballistic on Twitter like he was on "The Real Housewives Of Atlanta" when he found out what Mayweather had done. Amir was acting black on Twitter. Though he's not black, Amir had a black moment during that meltdown. For real Amir, you were on Twitter telling everybody off (LOL). I’m just saying…

This week, Mayweather has made a gesture in the way of making it up to him by including Khan on the undercard of his highly anticipated May 3, 2014 bout, which will give Amir the type of opportunity and exposure he seeks. Khan is scheduled to fight the exciting New York born Puerto Rican boxer, Luis Collazo, who has a good record, in what will be an interesting match up. Tickets for the fight, which began at $350.00 each, sold out within minutes. After the first few minutes of the tickets going on sale, the Ticketmaster website basically clowned you with a "searching" graphic, politely telling you to kick rocks, the event is sold out.

Khan had been offered $5,000,000 by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing to fight fellow Brit, Kell Brook, who is undefeated. Khan turned it down, while waiting for Mayweather. However, Khan can still fight Brook in London after the Collazo fight, giving the British people what they want. Matchroom’s Froch vs. Groves sold out within an hour, as 50,000 people snapped up the tickets. Therefore, there’s a strong British boxing market the Mancunian from Bolton, England could benefit from.

The highly anticipated boxing rematch between Carl Froch and George Groves sold out quickly yesterday afternoon. Froch was awarded the fight in a controversial decision against then undefeated Groves. Demand was so high, promoters are seeking to release 20,000 additional tickets at the venue. The press conference for the fight revealed tensions between the two men. Annoyed by the attacks, Groves told promoter Eddie Hearn to handle it. However, Hearn, being the brave, courageous fearless promoter he is, laughed and quickly got out the way, determined not to accidentally get his butt kicked in any potential melee. It’s not everyday you see that kind of bravery *cough* self-preservation (just teasing).

After former boxing champ, Amir Khan, won a fan contest hosted by the world’s top ranked boxer, Floyd Mayweather, he thought he was set and would fight the pound-for-pound king for a guaranteed $10,000,000 purse. However, Mayweather scrapped the results of the fan vote which stated he should fight Khan and not Marcos Maidana, opting to choose the latter as his next opponent, for a May 3, 2014 bout. Mayweather’s words indicate he is of the belief, Khan is not on his level as a boxer. Khan, who does have a strong record, suffered a few key losses, leading Mayweather to make said statements.

Former boxing champ, Britain’s Amir Khan, has had enough of the world’s top boxer, Floyd Mayweather, messing with his head. The two began throwing verbal jabs at each other in the press. Then Mayweather asked fans to vote at his website to choose which boxer he would fight next - Khan or Argentinean champ Marcos Maidana, who recently beat his protégé Adrien Broner. Fans chose Khan, but Mayweather decided to override the decision and pick Maidana. This made Khan very angry, as he was cut out of a $10,000,000 purse.

Mayweather, realizing some are upset about the vote being discarded responded to a challenge from Khan, who asked to fight Broner and if he wins, he wants a shot at the champ. In response, Mayweather tweeted on Twitter that if Khan beats his “brother” Broner in an undercard bout, he will fight him. However, in the same statement, Mayweather let Khan know he won’t beat Broner. So basically, Mayweather told Khan to kick rocks, the fight’s not gonna happen. Mayweather has Khan off for something. He’s been toying with him for months.

Days prior to their latest Twitter fight, the Judiciary Report asked if Khan was sure he wanted to wait around for Mayweather or Broner for that matter, as the former is holding all the cards and toying with him. Mayweather’s answer proves he is not serious about Khan.

Khan is a skilled boxer, but Mayweather would beat him. Comparing videos of their styles, strength and jabs, Mayweather has a clear advantage. Mayweather’s biggest challenge would be Filipino boxer, Manny Pacquiao. Yes, Mayweather could beat Pacquiao. However, if Mayweather’s not careful, Pacquiao’s speed and jab could render a surprise knock out.

Khan for his part is complaining on Twitter about articles regarding the $5,000,000 offer from Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing not being legit. However, they have stated the offer remains on the table and the company has arranged the highly anticipated Froch vs. Groves rematch. However Amir Khan, the winner of the fan vote, who was overlooked in favor of Maidana, confirmed he did win the poll, had signed a contract with Mayweather Promotions and has lost money waiting on the champ. Khan had turned down a December 2013 fight against Devon Alexander, costing him money in light of Mayweather canceling the fight with him. However, Khan has been offered $5,000,000 to fight fellow Briton, Kell Brook. The offer was issued by British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn. It's a decent offer for a good payday, especially considering Khan has a baby on the way. He must plan for his future, as does any athlete. In response to Mayweather's announcement, Khan stated: 

Following the announcement by Floyd Mayweather that he will be facing Marcos Maidana on May 3rd I would like to clarify my situation for my fans and members of the media. Despite having signed my part of the agreement to fight Floyd in early December, I’ve been preparing myself for some time that the match up with him wasn’t going to happen, as I announced on Twitter a few days ago. Therefore, this announcement did not come as a surprise. 

I am, however, very disappointed with Floyd and his team for not providing any explanation as to why he delayed the announcement for so long and ultimately avoided the fight with me. Clarification, if he was not fighting me, would have allowed me to look over my options and pursue another path, rather than the ultimate delay to my career this has caused. It has been a very frustrating period as I’d been due to fight in December against Devon Alexander, however, I was strongly advised to not take this fight as I would be facing Floyd this May – and therefore signed my side of the contract on this belief. 

Floyd was keen to engage with the fans and so decided to let them choose who he should fight in his next bout. I clearly won his official poll, by a significant margin, but for unknown reasons he decided to ignore the fans vote and failed to keep his word. As a team we have now moved on and are looking at different options.
