The very nature of boxing often entails fighters trading punches and usually to the head. However, as with other contact sports such as American football, athletes have learned head injuries can have a long lasting impact on their health and life. The medical term Encephalopathy was coined to cover a spectrum of conditions that can be classified as brain disease.

A wave of American football players began suffering brain disorders that resembled Alzheimer's and Parkinsons due to constant blows to the head resulting in concussions. The symptoms include memory loss, tremors, diminished cognitive ability, confusion, difficulty concentration, seizures, mood swings, depression, dementia and suicidality.

Muhamad Ali and another beloved star, actor Michael J. Fox, both have Parkinsons. My theory is the constant blows to the head Ali sustained in his storied boxing career and an injury Fox sustained on the set of the "Back To The Future" film, where his head was caught in a prop, initiated Parkinsons in them (head injuries/brain injuries).  

While the focus of the mental condition has largely been on American football players, boxers are also in danger of developing encephalopathy and need to be monitored and if necessary treated for the medical condition. A number of boxers have reported symptoms that carry some of the traits of encephalopathy. 

While some boxers pride themselves on being able to take punishment in the ring, the style of hit and don't get hit is the better, healthier option. A shorter number of rounds, as opposed to 12, is also better (in the United Kingdom the standard fight has 8 rounds). On the whole, modern referees have become far more cautious and willing to stop fights when they are of the belief a fighter is in mortal danger or a serious health problem is about to occur. Some boxers do not like their fights being stopped over injuries they personally do not deem significant, but referees are erring on the side of caution.

For years boxer Frank Bruno had struggled with depression and related issues, after sustaining blows to the head during the course of his career. He became suicidal 13-years ago and was admitted to a hospital for mental health treatment. He retired from boxing at age 34. Bruno is now 54 and seeks to make a boxing comeback, which is inadvisable, as it could exacerbate his depression and any underlying medical conditions related to the brain. I have wondered if Bruno is struggling with the beginning stages of brain disease due to some of his symptoms. However, I hope not. Nonetheless, he must continue to stick to an appropriate and effective treatment plan for his depression.

As stated in the January 22, 2014 article How To Reap The Benefits Of Boxing While Avoiding The Pitfalls: "The brain is delicate. It is a part of the human body that does not easily withstand injury. I am of the belief head injuries sustained in combat, accidents and sports, as well as brain hemorrhages (aneurysm or stroke) greatly increases the risk of developing Parkinsons or Alzheimer’s. People with the aforementioned injuries are more prone to depression and regrettably suicide. It’s crucial that one recognizes the signs of depression early and seek medical treatment and therapy to ward off its effects. 

Brain injury leads the body to release distress chemicals that triggers feelings of sadness, confusion, doubt and depression. Basically, it’s a distress signal. Your body telling you there’s a problem. Athletes in contact sports are more prone to depression. Head injuries some boxers sustain contribute to depression. This sometimes leads to drug use, such as cocaine, in failed attempts at feeling better. So, protect your head as best you can."

Anthony "Million Dolla" Crolla has overcome adversity to become the new WBA World Lightweight Champion in his boxing bout against Darleys Perez. A year ago, Crolla's boxing career was seriously sidelined after he attempted to stop burglars from robbing his neighbor's home. Crolla was hit over the head with a concrete slab and sustained a broken ankle during the dust up.

Doctors were concerned whether Crolla would fight again, as a fractured skull is a serious traumatic brain injury with significant neurological side effects. However, with hard work he recovered from his injuries and thankfully his brain has responded well to treatment (though some neurological risks still remain, due to what had transpired with the fractured skull). In July 2015, Crolla fought Perez in their first outing which resulted in a draw. Crolla was crushed. However, the rematch this past Saturday in Manchester, England resulted in a decisive win for Crolla, whose face said it all in the ring. He was ecstatic at winning after his ordeal. 

I give Crolla credit. If someone was breaking into my neighbor's house, I'd phone the police...from the safety of under my bed and whisper so low during the call that only owls could truly hear what I was saying and emergency dispatch would have to put it on speakerphone to hear it. When my neighbor got home I'd be like, "I tried to stop them, but they took all your stuff" (LOL).

Atlanta motorist, Russell Eckerman, has sued Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of the late singer, Whitney Houston, for $750,000 over a car accident. 22-year-old Bobbi Kristina is dying in a hospice and her conservator has been made aware of the lawsuit. Eckerman has been hospitalized since January 2015, due to Bobbi Kristina's car accidentally colliding with his vehicle on a Marietta, Georgia road. A report on the WENN website indicates Bobbi Kristina, "Lost control of her Jeep, which subsequently swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with his Ford Taurus." Eckerman's medical bills are quite high.

Bobbi Kristina walked away from the accident unscathed. However, Eckerman sustained skull fractures and a fractured spine. Eckerman was placed into a medically induced coma that he was later brought out of, but is no longer able to speak. Ironically, 3-days after the accident, Bobbi Kristina Brown was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of boyfriend, Nick Gordon. Bobbi Kristina was found face down and unresponsive in her bathtub. She was rushed to hospital and placed in a medically induced coma as well. Recently, Bobbi Kristina Brown was transferred to a hospice to peacefully pass away.

New Orleans singer August Alsina experienced seizures and sustained a serious head injury, when he fell off stage while performing in New York City this week. The accidental fall and head injury is thought to have occurred after the singer engaged in substance abuse before taking to the stage.

Alsina was placed in a medically induced coma for three days, to relieve the pressure on his brain. A member of his camp posted a photo of him in the intensive care unit at the hospital, along with a message that stated, "This is a bit graphic but I wanted to share this w/ every follower of mine. I woke up out of a 3 day coma...& this guy banggang_moneyteam right here never once left my side. What I'm tryna say is cherish the ones in life who cherish you and take good care of yourself. Your life can be gone in  a split second. I'm recovering well and thank you for  all of your prays a& concerns. - Yung"

 

"Illuminati" rappers, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross, have repeatedly been rushed to the hospital suffering from seizures, due to illegal drug use they brag about on record and in interviews. This is not a good example to set for impressionable audiences, some of whom could overdose in trying to be like them.

Boxer Jerome Wilson’s Career Ends After Knock Out Results In Severe Head Injury

Welterweight boxer, Jerome Wilson of Sheffield, England was rushed to the hospital during his 8th fight, after a 6th round knockout by fellow boxer, Serge Ambomo, in a rematch fight that took place on September 12, 2014. The 29-year-old dad remains in critical condition with a "severe brain injury." 

Last year, boxer, Magomed Abdusalamov, sustained very serious injuries in a fight against fellow pugilist, Mike Perez (World Heavyweight Champ Wladimir Klitschko Sued By The Family Of Brain Damaged Boxer). As a result of the severe brain injuries Abdusalamov sustained during the fight, he can no longer walk or talk.

In 1947, boxing legend Sugar Ray Robinson once accidentally delivered a knockout punch that became a death blow to rival, 22-year-old Jimmy Doyle in Cleveland, Ohio. It was welterweight Robinson’s worst nightmare, literally, as he’d had a dream days before the fight that he would end up accidentally killing Doyle. He succumb to a severe head injury hours after being rush from the ring to the hospital. 

After Robinson woke up from the dream, he tried to back out of the fight, but it went ahead as planned and Robinson’s nightmare came true. Robinson established a trust that took care of Doyle’s mother for a decade after her son’s tragic passing. 

It’s what every boxer dreads - a serious head injury that changes life and career. No one wants for it to happen or means for it to happen, but sadly sometimes it does in the ring. It doesn’t matter what color you are, what country you come from or your weight division. It can happen to any boxer.

Boxing is not an easy sport. It’s more than putting on gloves and gum shield and jumping into the ring. There’s a lot more behind it than that. It takes planning and productive plotting. Great self-discipline. Years of heavy training and a restricted diet. A great trainer. A great promoter. Basically, a team behind you that knows what they are doing and are willing to invest in your possible success (as there are con artists out there, who have terribly taken advantage of boxers and don’t know what they are doing in managing and promoting them).

At the end of the day boxing is a tough and dangerous sport and people should treat it as such. The grueling training and physical punishment in the ring is not easy to endure. It can turn into a very painful pummeling that takes time to heal (torn ligaments, fractured and broken bones, negative neurological changes).

People should not begrudge boxers the money they earn in the event they make it, because a lot went into their success that the average person is not willing to endure. To reach the top was a hard fought climb with years of preparation, planning and punishment. I respect the age old sport and wish all boxers well. Protect and take care of yourselves.

World Heavyweight Champ Wladimir Klitschko Sued By The Family Of Brain Damaged Boxer (Video)

World heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko and his company K2 Promotions have been sued by the family of boxer Magomed Abdusalamov, over permanent brain damage he sustained in a fight on November 3, 2014 at the famed Madison Square Gardens in New York. Abdusalamov fought boxer Mike Perez in a 10 round bout and sustained extensive neurological damage due to repeated blows to the head. Abdusalamov suffered such a severe beating during the bout, he sustained strokes and required brain surgery. He can no longer walk or talk.

Abdusalamov's wife contends the fight should have been stopped and her husband given immediate medical attention. Instead, Abdusalamov, injured and in pain, took a cab to the hospital, where the full extent of his injuries were discovered. Klitschko has forwarded the case to K2 Production's insurance company, but they are refusing to pay. The insurance company states the policy does not cover injuries sustained in the ring.

The Judiciary Report has repeatedly written about head injuries and separately as it relates to boxers. To make it to the top as a boxer requires a significant amount of hard work. It is physically and mentally grueling, day in and day out. Only the toughest and mentally strongest boxers make it to the top. It is not easy and requires hours of physically taxing training and conditioning at least 5 days a week. 

Boxers have to be dedicated and careful regarding how they plot, plan and perform in their careers. You have to take the right fights at the right time in your career, following a slow and steady progression to gain experience and develop to your full potential. Taking the wrong fight at the wrong time can end a career in more ways than one.

Some want boxers to draw out fights to show their abilities as pugilists. However, it is dangerous. I grew up watching Tyson fight. He was the fighter of my generation and we all full well knew the fight could end in seconds due to a knock out (you bought the ticket, you knew, get over it LOL).

It should always be get in the ring and get out as soon as possible, especially when you're a heavyweight boxer, as they hit the hardest and can inflict the most damage. Hit and don't get hit (within reason) should be the goal, wrapping it up as soon as possible. The human brain is very delicate and not meant to withstand physical punishment especially of a sustained and forceful nature.

Boxers such as Muhammad Ali paid a price with their long term health for taking too many blows to the head in putting on a good show. Back then the risks were not fully understood, but now they are and must be minimized. American football players are also at risk, due to the significant hits they take on the gridiron, greatly increasing their risk of Alzheimer and Parkinsons.

Man Sentenced To Prison In The Death Of Singer Usher’s Stepson

Jeffrey Hubbard has been sentenced to 4-years in prison over the accidental death of 11-year-old Kile Glover, the stepson of singer Usher and his ex-wife Tameka Foster Raymond. Glover was removed from life support in 2012, after being declared brain dead due to a jetski accident on Georgia’s Lake Lanier. Hubbard, a family friend, was on a jet ski when it collided with Glover’s watercraft (pontoon) and cause irreparable brain damage via traumatic brain injury. Another child was also injured in the accident, but survived.

Last month, Hubbard was convicted of homicide by vessel, serious injury by vessel, reckless operation of a vessel, unlawful operation of a personal watercraft and a boat traffic violation, according to the Miami Herald. Hubbard, via his attorney, stated the incident was an accident.

In another incident, Usher’s 5-year-old son Usher jr., nearly drowned in a pool at the singer’s home, while being supervised by his grandaunt. Usher jr. leapt into the pool to recover a toy and his arm became lodged in the pool drain. The boy was underwater for a few minutes, but quick thinking construction workers were able to remove him from the powerful drain and he was transported to the hospital. Usher jr. is still being monitored on an outpatient basis, for any lingering effects from the accident, as being submerged under water for minutes can lead to learning disabilities and neurological difficulties.

NFL football player Adrian Peterson met his two-year-old son Ty Doohen for the first time this week, after he was viciously beaten and lay dying in a Sioux Falls, South Dakota hospital. The child was beaten by Joseph Patterson, the new boyfriend of the boy's mother, 29-year-old, Ann "Ashley" Doohen.

Whilst babysitting the boy, Patterson repeatedly struck Ty in the head with a metal rod, creating a traumatic brain injury. On Friday, Ty was pronounced brain dead by medical staff and the family asked that life support be turned off. The toddler succumb to his injuries shortly after. Patterson is being held on $750,000 bond.

Many are calling for Joseph Patterson to be given the death penalty, stating this murderous crime against a defenseless child is cruel and horrific. The U.S. state of South Dakota observes the death penalty and has done so for over 30-years. On the whole, crimes against children are not met with leniency.

Patterson had a fling with Doohen, resulting in the birth of their child that he did not know about until recently. Prior to Peterson meeting Doohen he's had a long term relationship with high school sweetheart Ashley Brown. The two have a daughter, Adeja, who is 4-years-old. Peterson also has another son, Adrian Peterson, aged 2. The toddler is also said to live with Peterson as well.

12-Year-Old Boy Dies From Injuries After Being Bullied (Video)

12-year-old Bailey O'Neill of Pennsylvania, was taken off life support one day after his birthday. O'Neill was a victim of schoolyard bullying and sustained serious injuries in an attack, which resulted in a broken nose and seizures from trauma to his brain. He was placed in a medically induced coma to relieve pressure on his brain.

A Facebook page posted in O'Neill's honor read, "First of all I want to say the battle isn't over we will remember Bailey always and we will continue this fight until Bullying is eradicated," said a post on the Prayers for Bailey O'Neill Facebook page, which is not run by the family.

"With the heaviest heart we want to inform you all that Bailey has gone to be with the Lord please, please, please continue to pray for his family and continue on this fight for us until no child ever has to face a situation like this again. God Bless You all thank you so much!"

The Judiciary Report has stated in the past and reiterates, bullying should be criminalized. Kids are seriously injured or commit suicide from bullying. Something must be done to stop it. Only a small percentage of students would be unwise enough to risk jail to bully others, thus reducing the number of incidents.

Boxer Hector "Macho" Camacho died this past weekend, after doctors took him off life support, at the request of his family. It was an agonizing decision for them. Camacho's mom appeared on Spanish language television crying outside the hospital.

Camacho died of a heart attack, succumbing to his injuries that stemmed from a drug related drive by shooting in his native Puerto Rico. He was 50-years-old. The former boxer became famous in the 1980s for his flamboyant style and fast hands. However, his life was also plagued by drug, alcohol and domestic violence issues.

Famous Puerto Rican boxer, Hector "Macho" Camacho, was gunned down in a drive by shooting yesterday in his home country, as he sat as a passenger in a car outside a bar. Camacho, who was raised in New York and lives in Florida, sustained bullet wounds to the face and neck, with doctors subsequently pronouncing him brain dead.

The driver of the targeted vehicle, 49-year-old Adrian Mojica Moreno, was been pronounced dead. Today it was reported cocaine was present in the car occupied by Camacho. Police have also detained a man in a white van for questioning, as he was seen speeding away from the crime scene.

Model And Blogger Lauren Scruggs Makes A Comeback After Losing Limb And Eye In Plane Propeller Accident

 

24-year-old stylist, model and blogger, Lauren Scruggs, is making a remarkable recovery, after accidentally walking into a plane propeller last Christmas. Scruggs was existing a private aircraft after an aerial tour of the city to look at festive Christmas lights.

Responding paramedics thought she was dead, as a badly injured Scruggs was found face down in a pool of blood. Scruggs sustained a cracked skull (traumatic brain injury) and severed hand, with doctors having to remove her damaged left eye shortly after.

Scruggs, whose website is called LoLo, has written a book entitled "Still LoLo." In it she describes the terrible trauma she went through due to the accident. She tells of the moment after the accident, when she first looked at herself naked in the mirror.

The model expressed in the tome that she was horrified at the surgical screws in her half shaved head, where her luxurious locks once lay, the scar on her face, her missing eye and hand and cracked teeth. Scruggs says she went into the shower, crumpled on the floor and cried. The accident is undoubtedly a tough trauma.

Scruggs told herself her life is ruined and she is ugly and no one would love her. However, that's not true. There are many men who would marry her. Losing a limb does not make one unattractive. Scruggs is still beautiful, with a great figure. She also has much to live for, via her writing and doing charity work. Scruggs can also continue to model, as newly released pictures show her looking fantastic. Your life isn't over. There is still much you can achieve.

Reports in the entertainment industry this week continue to indicate what the Judiciary Report stated all along, Tameka Foster, the ex-wife of R&B singer, Usher Raymond, is bitter towards him over the death of her 11-year-old son, Kile Glover. The young boy sustained a terrible traumatic brain injury due to a jet ski accident in Georgia, was pronounced brain dead and removed from life support.

Foster feels Usher brought bad into her life. She also believes he neglected her sons, his stepchildren, when their relationship soured. Their marriage ended in an acrimonious divorce after two years. However, Raymond's position is Foster was engaging in threats and acts of violence against him and others in his life, which drove him away from her family. It's such a sad situation.

Kile Glover, the 11-year-old stepson of R&B singer, Usher Raymond, has died on July 21, 2012, after being taken off life support in Atlanta, Georgia. Glover is the son of Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Raymond. Two weeks ago Glover sustained a traumatic brain injury on July 8, 2012, after a jet ski collided with the inner tube he was floating on, during an outing at Georgia's Lake Lanier.

Within two days of the accident, doctors pronounced Glover brain dead, which medical science labels an irreversible condition. Placing Glover on life support suspended the death process, but once he was removed from the medical mechanisms, he passed away. The Judiciary Report is not a fan of pulling the plug as the phrase  goes, but that was his family's decision. It's always sad when a child dies.

On July 11, 2012 in the article "New Information Regarding Usher's Stepson Being Pronounced Brain Dead After Tragic Incident" the Judiciary Report stated, "Foster is now faced with the tough decision of leaving her son on life support as long as the hospital and courts will allow or pulling the plug." One week later on July 16, 2012, TMZ stated a source informed them, Usher Raymond's 11-year-old stepson, Kyle Glover, is in peril of being removed from life support, as his mother's health insurance will only cover him for two months.

Foster would have to devote all her alimony and child support checks to keeping the boy on life support, leaving nothing for herself and her other children and it still would not be enough. TMZ stated she does not view Usher as a viable "financial option." For years, Usher has been supporting Foster's very lavish lifestyle in a $3,000,000 Georgia mansion, with luxury cars, a staff and expensive trips. This is in addition to Foster's many spending sprees on credit cards, in stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Louis Vuitton and Chanel.

If Raymond denies Foster the money to keep her child on life support, she is going to hate him for that. She's resorted to violence against Usher for far less. With her back against the wall, she may do a six figure tell-all and paid interviews, as a means of paying her son's medical bills and once again, even that would not be enough to keep him on life support for long.

Usher Raymond's stepson, Kyle Glover, 11, remains brain dead at an Atlanta hospital, after a jet ski accident, police are investigating. His mother, Tameka Foster Raymond, who is the singer's ex-wife, is struggling with the choices she has been presented with - leave her son on life support or pull the plug, due to no brain activity.

Some on social networking sites and in blog feedback sections have been blaming Foster for the accident, stating she was out of town and left her underage son from another marriage, unattended as he was not bringing in big child support checks like the two children she has with millionaire singer Usher (Usher V and Navyid).

Reports indicate singer Usher Raymond pulled out of the ESPYs, the sports awards program shown on American channel ESPN. Raymond has withdrawn from the show due to his 11-year-old stepson Kyle Glover being pronounced brain dead, after a tragic jet ski accident on Georgia’s Lake Lanier. Glover’s medical condition remains unchanged. His family is devastated by the sudden events that left him in this state.

More information has been released on the tragic accident that left singer Usher Raymond's 11-year-old stepson, Kyle Glover, brain dead. Raymond was married to Glover's mother Tameka Foster for two years (2007-2009).  According to MTV, a family friend, Jeffrey S. Hubbard, 36, has been named as the individual operating the jet ski that hit Glover and a 15-year-old girl, who were being towed by a boat on Georgia's Lake Lanier.

The young girl suffered a broken arm and sustained a cut on the head, but has since been treated and released. As with any head injury, she will have to be monitored to check for any possible long term side effects. What a terrible tragedy. Foster is now faced with the tough decision of leaving her son on life support as long as the hospital and courts will allow or pulling the plug.

Lake Lanier will undoubtedly be sued in some manner or another, as the tragedy took place on their premises. However, the main liability lies with Hubbard, due to his failure to operate the jet ski in a safe and proper manner.

In an incredibly sad story, Kyle Glover, the 11-year-old stepson of singer Usher Raymond, was pronounced brain dead after a tragic jet ski mishap on Georgia's Lake Lanier. Raymond was married to Kyle's mother Tameka Foster Glover Raymond for 2-years and lived with him in Atlanta. The two are in the middle of a very acrimonious custody and alimony case.

Reports indicate that on Sunday, July 8, 2012, Kyle was floating on an inner tube, whilst spending the day with a 15-year-old girl, when a jet ski being driven by a 36-year-old male in their party, struck him on the head. He was rushed to the Egelston Hospital in Atlanta, but had sustained such a serious traumatic brain injury that doctors pronounced him brain dead. The young girl was injured as well, the extent of which has not been reported.

Usher chartered a private plane to fly Foster back to Atlanta to be with her son in the hospital, as she was away from Georgia when the accident transpired. The incident is being investigated by police and could result in criminal charges. 

Foster has three children from a previous marriage to Ryan Glover, whom she left during a well-publicized adulterous affair with Usher. Foster and Usher were wed shortly after and she gave birth to two children for the singer. However, the marriage was short lived, with Usher filing for divorce in 2009.
