Angela Merkel Political Party CDU Loses State Election In Germany Due To Open Door Policy Regarding Influx Of Syrian Migrants

Angela Merkel

The Judiciary Report’s political sensibilities have proven correct again. CDU, the political party of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, have been defeated in a state election. The defeat occurred in Merkel’s home state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The issue that caused the CDU’s defeat is Merkel allowing over 1,000,000 migrants into Germany in less than a year, under an open door immigration policy.

Merkel meant well, but the social and physical logistics of such a maneuver, as well as the financial price tag, proved her party’s undoing in the state election, where they placed third. The newly created far right Alternative for Germany (afD) political party defeated Merkel’s CDU, placing second. The Social Democratic Party placed first. A report released today indicates Merkel has now changed her focus to the deportation of immigrants who have been denied asylum. Merkel stated in Parliament, “The most important thing in the coming months is repatriation, repatriation and once more, repatriation.”

Once again, the Judiciary Report is not anti-immigration. However, immigration has to be done in a controlled, orderly fashion to prevent financial and economic damage to the host nation. Immigrants must also assimilate for immigration to properly work. Issues have arisen in Germany, such as some migrants not wanting to work. Some have also been engaging in crime such as theft, assault and murder. The high profile murder of a pregnant German woman walking on the street, who was killed by a migrant has not helped matters. Other issues have surfaced, such as child brides, which is forbidden by law in the West. Once again, immigrants must assimilate and adhere to the laws of their new nation.

Side Bar: Once again, a committee is needed regarding the immigration issue in Germany. To have over 1,000,000 new people in one's nation and not truly knowing who many of them are is a national security risk. The German government needs to formulate a plan to obtain the identities of the migrants.

'I'm very unhappy' Angela Merkel admits open-door policy DID cause defeat by far-right

PUBLISHED: 13:53, Mon, Sep 5, 2016 | UPDATED: 16:56, Mon, Sep 5, 2016 - ANGELA Merkel has admitted her hated open door policy on migrants led to her party’s crushing defeat in this weekend’s elections. But she basically went on to insist the German people did not know what was good for them and she just had to be more persuasive.

Mrs Merkel’s CDU party was beaten into third place by the right wing Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) party in her home state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. CDU could muster only a pitiful 19.2 per cent of the vote compared to the victorious AfD's 21 per cent, leading to growing scepticism about Merkel's ability to cling onto power in Germany after her party also lost three elections to the AfD in March…

Today at the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, China, Mrs Merkel conceded the open door policy to migrants had swayed the election but added that she considered the "fundamental decisions" of the refugee policy were correct…

Some Syrian Migrants Refusing To Work In Germany Posing A Problem For The State Regarding Supporting The Refugees

Angel Merkel

This is a follow up to the Judiciary Report article "The European Union Must Address Immigration Imbalances Threatening Select Member Nations Economic Future And Stability." A new report in the British newspaper the Express revealed, "German asylum seekers refuse to work insisting 'We are Merkel's GUESTS.'"

This poses a problem for Germany, as some Syrian migrants were allowed in, while others stormed the borders, with estimates revealing 750,000 have poured into their borders. While I’m certainly not xenophobic, having been an immigrant (from Jamaica) and I do sympathize with the migrants, in the aforementioned article months ago, I posed the practical, reasonable question, as a head of state and government, how do you reasonably care for an influx of 750,000 plus people, find them work (though they do not speak the language), food, shelter and clothing, without it completely walloping and overwhelming your system. It was and is mind-boggling.

Now the problem has arisen regarding some migrants not wanting to work, referring to themselves as "Merkel's guests" and seeking to get benefits instead (and this was bound to happen, as able bodied immigrants from a number of nations went to Britain - who recently voted to leave the EU - and opted to go on benefits rather than working in the United Kingdom).

Berlin, Germany

What that means is they expect the state to provide for them. That could financially destroy Germany. It could legitimately cause Germany to financially collapse. Migrants are also turning to crime in Germany, with a number of high profile crimes, from theft to murder, being written about in European newspapers.

The Germans are brilliant and very industrious, but as the site expressed months ago, they are going to have their work cut out for them regarding the massive immigrant influx under what are an unusual set of challenging circumstances. This would pose a massive challenge for any world nation.

I like Merkel. She’s a strong woman, who has accomplished a lot in office. She’s done positive things for Germany. However, this matter with the migrants is a serious issue that could overwhelm her government. A government committee/think tank/regulatory group dedicated to addressing the migrant issue needs to be formed for the sake of Germany and the migrants. I also encourage the Syrian migrants to learn German and cooperate with the government in finding work. Learn to assimilate and make an opportunity at a new life work.

German asylum seekers refuse to work insisting 'We are Merkel's GUESTS'

ASYLUM seekers in Germany are refusing to undertake work to counteract boredom - using Chancellor Angela Merkel’s generous hospitality as an excuse.

PUBLISHED: 09:06, Thu, Aug 18, 2016 | UPDATED: 21:09, Thu, Aug 18, 2016 According to mayor Bernd Pohlers of the eastern town of Saxony Waldenburg, the asylum seekers refused to accept the work that was offered to them after they arrived in the country. The local council spent £600 arranging for the men to have uniforms but were stunned when they were told they would not complete it because they were "guests of Angela Merkel".

While asylum seekers are not allowed to work under immigration rules within the EU, they are allowed to do voluntary work. However officials in the district of Zwickau came up with a plan to help encourage those without employment to get back to work and to help them become more accepted within the local community. In order to do this they created voluntary jobs which included a nominal payment of £18 for 20 hours work.

But all of the male residents of the local refugee accommodation who initially agreed to get involved in the charitable activities quit after discovering there was a minimum wage £7.30 (€8.50) in Germany. The men had been picked up and offered transportation from their paid-for housing where they are also given food and then dropped home.

Mayor Pohlers said: "It was subsequently argued by these people that they are guests of Mrs. Merkel and guests do not have to work. "Furthermore, they were of the opinion that there is a minimum wage (€8.50) in Germany, and that this had to be paid by the City Waldenburg." Despite attempts at mediation the asylum seekers refused to return to work. Mayor Pohlers added: "In a specially convened meeting with an interpreter the authorities explained the rules again. "Unfortunately, no agreement could be reached on the continuation of the measure."

World Leaders Blaming Obama For Brexit

Barack Obama

World leaders, political pundits and journalists are blaming President Barack Obama for Brexit. In the April 25, 2016 article "British And American Journalists Call President Obama A ‘Hypocrite’ For Meddling In Brexit" the Judiciary Report warned that Obama flying to Britain and arrogantly threatening journalists and the British public to vote to remain in the European Union (EU) or else he would take negative action against the United Kingdom, was a bad idea. I don’t know what possessed him to do it.

If a foreign leader flew into Washington and in a televised address began threatening Americans to vote how he says or he will punish the United States, it would go over horribly and rightly so. As a world leader you can’t go into other people’s countries browbeating and bullying them into doing your will.

Rumors are rife in European political circles that heads of state and party politicians in the EU are squarely blaming Obama’s arrogance during the aforementioned trip to London, England for the British people voting against remaining in the European Union. Obama needs to stop asking others to do things he would not, because in America there is an appropriate rule that immigrants cannot get benefits for 4-years. During Bill Clinton’s time, he also reformed the welfare system regarding Americans and immigrants, in a way that helped to tame the nation’s finances.

A nation’s finances does not work by magic. Impractical and or excessive spending can cause any nation of the world to collapse. When a nation collapses it is not pretty - it leads to widespread poverty, social unrest and increased crime levels. It is a scenario to be avoided through proper financial, legal and social management.

One of the biggest, richest and most influential nations in the EU, Germany, did not want to lose Britain from the European Union, as both nations have been paying a massive amount of their taxpayers money to help support the collective of nations. With Britain gone from the EU, Germany will have to do significantly more, as they have the most money and manpower.

Considering Germany has already taken in 1,000,000 non-German speaking migrants who will need food, clothes, shelter and jobs, as well as the nation giving billions to the European Union, I hope their economy and tax coffers can sustain such a massive commitment. Germany is a strong and industrious country, but they are being stretched to the limit as well. German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, publicly stated she is in no rush to usher Britain out of the European Union, referring to the United Kingdom as a partner. Britain and Germany have done great business together. So have Britain and France and Spain, among others.

British Prime Minister, David Cameron, bent over backwards to accommodate the EU. Britain gave 19 billion pounds per year and allowed millions of immigrants from the European Union into the United Kingdom. However, I do believe he sensed public dissatisfaction in the number of immigrants from the European Union and the issues it created with overcrowding in classrooms, the strain on the NHS and heavy demand on the benefits system.

Last year I read a report stating Cameron was trying to negotiate a deal with the EU, stipulating immigrants could not apply for financial and housing benefits for four years after coming to Britain (it’s the same rule in America, which is not apart of the EU). The EU (headquartered in Brussels, Belgium) should have approved Cameron’s request if they wanted Britain to remain in the European Union. This was the major sticking point for the British public, Cameron tried to fix it, but the EU did not embrace it.

British Home Secretary, Theresa May, also tried a last ditch attempt at fixing the issue. Last year May stated on British television that the government would like to implement a rule that stipulates immigrants coming to Britain should have a job lined up and financial means of support. Once again, the EU did not embrace it.

History has repeatedly shown for centuries that when one is involved in politics, one must listen to and correctly gauge public sentiment. Never ignore public discontent. Look what it turned into for so many world leaders throughout time who refused the will of the people. The European Union lost the British people’s vote for this reason.

Let’s be reasonable, millions of people from other parts of the European Union were emptying out into Britain, a nation that received an enormous amount of mass immigration. There should have been rules to assure immigration was done in a more controlled manner, to prevent any EU nation from breaking under the strain of immigration. However, the European Union rejected it.

From 2009 the Judiciary Report sensed public discontent in Britain regarding immigrants coming to the UK and immediately getting sizeable financial and housing benefits ( and ). The Judiciary Report made suggestions on how to reform the benefits system as the issue was turning into a powder keg for Britons, who felt they were being taken advantage of by immigrants.

David Cameron

Once again, it wasn’t a matter of racism or xenophobia, as many of the immigrants from the European Union are white and many Brits have married them, but Britons losing benefits while seeing immigrants living very comfortably and in some cases lavishly off state money, due to the British government wanting to be hospitable in fulfilling their role in the EU and to political refugees seeking asylum, did a significant amount of political damage to the European Union’s cause.

At the end of the day, some able bodied people would not work realizing they could just leave other parts of the European Union and plead poverty in Britain, then receive sizeable cash and housing benefits. Meanwhile, Brits born and raised in the United Kingdom, who have been working long hours for years, were not eligible for benefits (as in all countries with a benefits system, it is for the needy). Be honest, how would you feel if that happened in your country.

Not everyone did this, as there are many French, Polish, German and Middle Eastern corner shops, phone stores, computer stores and clothing businesses I have bought goods and services from in Britain, run by hardworking immigrants, who work from sun up to sun down. However, let’s be honest, there are some immigrants that have been taking advantage of the British benefits system and this is what created the discontent among natives.

To the Brits on the trains who get up early to go to work in business offices, stores, restaurants and on construction sites, among other places, it pained them that they have been working so hard, only to see immigrants claiming poverty getting generous financial and housing benefits (as seen in the newspapers). Some immigrants needed to understand that benefits are supposed to be within reason and for people who are sick, disabled or truly can’t find work, to stop them from becoming destitute and homeless.

Newspapers such as the Daily Mail and the Mirror among others, began running credible stories showing immigrants who came to Britain and immediately got big benefits to the point they lived in middle class and upper class homes with multiple flat screen televisions, leather furniture, designer clothes and luxury shoes. They took advantage of the system due to their family size. The more family members and children you have in one household, the more benefits you receive and the bigger the property you will be housed in, all underwritten by the taxpayers.

British homes are very nice and the bigger the house, the more lavish its appointments will be. Local councils had difficulty finding larger homes in more moderately priced areas of London, so big immigrant families ended up housed next to high earning judges and doctors.

This is why in 2009 the Judiciary Report suggested the government house immigrants in places like the home counties, where there are big homes in nice neighborhoods at lower prices (Britain's Benefits). Surrey, England is nice and affordable. However, some immigrants registered for benefits in London, England, wanting to be in the heart of the fabulous capital and this is where another problem occurred for the government.

The new rule should be immigrants applying for benefits are automatically housed in the home counties, because large London homes for big families is too expensive for the taxpayers to underwrite in benefits cases. There are many hardworking Britons in the home counties, who live in nice homes and travel to London via train for work or to enjoy the many activities in the capital. It’s workable. At the end of the day, as an immigrant, someone is giving you a chance at a new life. Be understanding, take the opportunity and make the most of it.

HERE ARE A FEW ITEMS FROM SOCIAL NETWORKING REGARDING OBAMA AND BREXIT:

Nigel Farage: Britons voted for Brexit because Obama told them not to

June 24, 2016, 12:01 pm - A leading figure in the British push to exit the European Union says President Obama accidentally helped the Brexit cause. Nigel Farage on Friday said Obama's calls for the United Kingdom to stay in the EU caused people to vote to leave. “Threatening people too much insults their intelligence,” the United Kingdom Independence Party head said.

“A lot of people in Britain said, ‘How dare the American president come here and tell us what to do?’ ” Farage continued on Sirius XM’s “Breitbart News Daily,” citing Obama’s U.K. trip in April. “It backfired. We got an Obama-Brexit bounce, because people do not want foreign leaders telling them how to think and vote.”

Obama warned Britain against leaving the EU during a visit in April, saying it could hurt potential trade deals with the U.S. “The U.K. is going to be in the back of the queue,” he said during an appearance alongside Cameron. “Not because we don’t have a special relationship but because given the heavy lift of any trade agreement, us having access to a big market with a lot of countries rather than trying to do piecemeal trade agreements is hugely inefficient.”

Donald Trump on Friday mocked Obama for being on the losing side in the Brexit vote. “The world doesn’t listen to him,” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee said during a press conference in Turnberry, Scotland. Trump said he wholeheartedly backed Britain’s decision to leave the EU and once again forge its own path. “You just have to embrace it,” he said. "It’s the will of the people. What happened should have happened, and they’ll be stronger for it.”

Farage on Friday said Britain’s exit from the EU could ultimately jeopardize the organization’s existence. “I think we’ve changed not just the future of British history, I’m sure the European Union project itself will come tumbling down. People power can beat the establishment if they try hard enough."...

Obama’s credibility takes a beating after Brexit vote

June 24, 2016 | 11:21pm President Obama ate a serving of humble pie Friday after Britain ignored his advice and voted to leave the European Union. “Yesterday’s vote speaks to the ongoing changes and challenges raised by globalization,” Obama said while attending a tech conference in Silicon Valley.

“The world has shrunk. It is interconnected . . . It promises to bring extraordinary benefits, but it also has challenges,” Obama said. One of those challenges is to the president’s credibility, which is taking a beating after he heavily advocated for the Brits to remain in the EU. Conor McCann, a Dublin-based political-affairs analyst, wondered if Obama’s lost Europe. “Obama, with his great status in Europe — if he couldn’t sway it, it’s an indication things have changed,” McCann told Bloomberg News.

In April, Obama traveled to the UK in part to advocate that it remain in the EU. He even threatened the UK directly, saying it would have to go to the “back of the queue” in trade negotiations with the United States because the EU is so much bigger. On Friday, the president’s language was far more deferential. “Based on our conversation, I’m confident that the UK is committed to an orderly transition out of the EU,” he said...

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump rubbed salt in the wound on his trip to Scotland. “A lot of people don’t like him,” Trump said of Obama. Trump, who backed the “Leave” campaign, added, “I was actually very surprised that President Obama would’ve come over here and he would’ve been so bold as to tell the people over here what to do.”

German chancellor Angela Merkel is in no hurry to see Britain go Reuters

Jun. 25, 2016, 6:52 PM - Germany (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on Saturday for clear-headed negotiations with "close partner" Britain over its departure from the European Union. Foreign ministers of the EU's six founding members had earlier said Britain should leave the bloc as soon as possible after Britons voted on Thursday to quit the 28-member bloc. However, Merkel struck a more conciliatory tone.

"The negotiations must take place in a businesslike, good climate," Merkel said after a meeting of her conservative party in Hermannswerder, outside Potsdam, to the west of Berlin. "Britain will remain a close partner, with which we are linked economically," she said, adding that there was no hurry for Britain to invoke Article 50 of the EU treaty - the first step it must take to set in motion the exit process.

"It should not take ages, that is true, but I would not fight now for a short time frame," Merkel said, in contrast with the more urgent call by the foreign ministers of Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, who were meeting to the north of the German capital...

The Obama Administration Plans To Give The NSA The Ability To Spy On Americans And Global Citizens To Greater Degrees For Illegal Reasons

Obama's attitude clearly is: the law doesn't apply to me

The Obama Administration plans to give the National Security Agency the ability to spy on Americans and global citizens to greater degrees than they are already doing, in criminal violation of the law. The NSA will be able to share illegally obtained wiretap contents, hacked computer and email data, among other things, with any government entity it chooses. Obama will use it to further spy on personal, political and corporate rivals he deems enemies and use the data to harm people and their financial interests, for daring to defy or speak out against him (pay attention Apple and company).

Obama is already using the IRS to terrorize his perceived enemies, such as preachers (James Dobson, among others who spoke out against ObamaCare), politicians (Ben Carson, Donald Trump) and businessmen (the conservative billionaires the Koch Brothers regarding their financial interests, among others). Obama is also actively spying on British Prime Minister David Cameron, London mayor Boris Johnson and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, among others.

All this spying is for political and economic reasons and has nothing to do with keeping America safe, as falsely claimed by the Obama Administration. These acts are violating the rights and privacy of Americans and global citizens, with no legal authority to do so. The Obama Administration also has no international jurisdiction and is criminally breaking international law in spying on foreign citizens and corporations via illegal wiretaps, hacking, GPS tracking, bank account scanning and physical surveillance. It is very unbecoming.

Privacy Advocates Blast Plan to Expand NSA Data Sharing

Feb 29, 2016 1:04 PM PT -  The Obama administration plans to increase the amount of private communications the National Security Agency can share with other government agencies without first adding privacy protections, according to a report published last week in The New York Times.

The plan would ease restrictions on the amount of intercepted email and telephone intelligence the NSA gathers, including bulk collection of satellite communications, phone data between foreigners, and messages from overseas that U.S. allies provide, according to the report, which cited unnamed officials familiar with the deliberations.

The move represents a major expansion of surveillance and data sharing authority and has been a longstanding concern of privacy groups, according to Marc Rotenberg, president of the Electronic Privacy Information Center. "There are significant privacy implications that EPIC will examine in detail," he told the E-Commerce Times. The data subject to the expansion includes system-of-record notices, such as individuals of interest in foreign intelligence or counterintelligence activity...(http://www.technewsworld.com)

Obama's National Security Agency Rejects German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Request To See Her NSA File

President Barack Obama

For several years the Judiciary Report has maintained that the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the latter an agency I’ve interacted with thanks to moronic Madonna and Rupert Murdoch’s unlawful conduct, have been illegally spying on Americans and global citizens (NSA Admits Employees Illegally Spied On Love Interests And Significant Others Confirming Site’s Previous Claims). Years after my sites made said claims, scandals broke in the mainstream press confirming my websites’ previous claims.

As mentioned on the site last year, months before the National Security Agency's PRISM spying scandal broke regarding former computer contractor, Edward Snowden, bravely releasing documents and digital files confirming illegal spying activity by the government, I’d applied to the NSA for a copy of my file under the Freedom of Information Act. The NSA politely declined to give me my file. However, now I don’t feel so bad, because German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, was just denied a copy of her file as well. If she can't get her file there was next to no chance I would be getting mine.

Angela Merkel

Merkel is an ally of President Obama, but that didn’t stop him  from spying on his foreign counterpart, wiretapping her phones and hacking her emails. To honor the Freedom Of Information Act enacted by Congress and release her file to Chancellor Merkel, would confirm what Obama has questionably done, regarding her and others.

The part I dislike about this and have from the start is when the government declines Freedom of Information Act requests, it gives the public the false impression you’ve done something you shouldn’t have for the government to have spied on you. However, as has been shown by the PRISM scandal, the government has been amassing illegal files on writers such as myself, whose websites or newspapers release articles with exclusives that breaks stories exposing unlawful conduct or items critical of the government violating the Constitution.

The Judiciary Report also broke the news that connected writers, who receive tips the government would like to use before said items hit the internet and becomes public knowledge via articles, are also being spied on, which has since been confirmed (New Scandal Erupts Regarding The FBI And Justice Department Monitoring Calls Of AP Reporters Confirming Previous Site Claims).

Angela Merkel denied access to her NSA file

Thursday 10 April 2014 13.31 EDT - Frustration with US government rises over failure to clear up questions about surveillance of German chancellor's phone. Angela Merkel, the German chancellor. The US government's refusal to allow Merkel access to her own NSA file contrasts with the ease with which Germans can see files relating to the activities of the Stasi. The US government is refusing to grant Angela Merkel access to her NSA file or answer formal questions from Germany about its surveillance activities, raising the stakes before a crucial visit by the German chancellor to Washington.

Merkel will meet Barack Obama in three weeks, on her first visit to the US capital since documents leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA had been monitoring her phone. The face-to-face meeting between the two world leaders had been intended as an effort to publicly heal wounds after the controversy, but Germany remains frustrated by the White House's refusal to come clean about its surveillance activities in the country.

In October, Obama personally assured Merkel that the US is no longer monitoring her calls, and promised it will not do so in the future. However, Washington has not answered a list of questions submitted by Berlin immediately after Snowden's first tranche of revelations appeared in the Guardian and Washington Post in June last year, months before the revelations over Merkel's phone...

Newspaper Reports The NSA Is Illegally Spying On 35 World Leaders

Barack Obama

This is a follow up to yesterday's article "The NSA Gets President Obama Into International Trouble Over Spying On Other Heads Of State." Initially, it was reported the NSA has been spying on the heads of state of France, Germany and Mexico, respectively.

The Judiciary Report indicated the spying extends much further than the three heads of state, even stating British Prime Minister David Cameron has been a target (they snatch the calls/signal off the satellite). Yesterday's Judiciary Report article also mentioned previous illegal wiretapping by the Obama administration of the Jamaican head of state, which began years ago, as one of my sources informed me in 2010 regarding Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding, "They have him on tape."

U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Over an hour after yesterday's article was published to the Judiciary Report and to the site's time stamped blog, the Guardian newspaper in London went public with information stating the Obama Administration via the NSA, has been spying on 35 world leaders via illegal wiretapping (among other things).

This scandal has led to world leaders going to the United Nations regarding the illegal spying, seeking to curb the criminal misconduct. The latest claims have come forth from files associated with brave American whistleblower, Edward Snowden, who is currently domiciled in Russia.

NSA monitored calls of 35 world leaders after US official handed over contacts

The Guardian, Thursday 24 October 2013 14.14 EDT - Agency given more than 200 numbers by government official. NSA encourages departments to share their 'Rolodexes.' Surveillance produced 'little intelligence', memo acknowledges.

The NSA memo suggests that such surveillance was not isolated as the agency routinely monitors world leaders. Photograph: Guardian

The National Security Agency monitored the phone conversations of 35 world leaders after being given the numbers by an official in another US government department, according to a classified document provided by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The confidential memo reveals that the NSA encourages senior officials in its "customer" departments, such the White House, State and the Pentagon, to share their "Rolodexes" so the agency can add the phone numbers of leading foreign politicians to their surveillance systems.

The document notes that one unnamed US official handed over 200 numbers, including those of the 35 world leaders, none of whom is named. These were immediately "tasked" for monitoring by the NSA.

The revelation is set to add to mounting diplomatic tensions between the US and its allies, after the German chancellor Angela Merkel on. Wednesday accused the US of tapping her mobile phone...

Exclusive: Germany, Brazil Turn to U.N. to Restrain American Spies

Thursday, October 24, 2013 - 8:18 PM - Brazil and Germany today joined forces to press for the adoption of a U.N. General Resolution that promotes the right of privacy on the internet, marking the first major international effort to restrain the National Security Agency's intrusions into the online communications of foreigners, according to diplomatic sources familiar with the push.

The effort follows a German claim that the American spy agency may have tapped the private telephone of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and dozens of other world leaders. It also comes about one month after Brazilian leader DilmaRousseff denounced NSA espionage against her country as "a breach of international law" in a General Assembly speech and proposed that the U.N. establish legal guidelines to prevent "cyberspace from being used as a weapon of war."

Brazilian and German diplomats met in New York today with a small group of Latin American and European governments to consider a draft resolution that calls for expanding privacy rights contained in the International Covenant Civil and Political Rights to the online world. The draft does not refer to a flurry of American spying revelations that have caused a political uproar around the world, particularly in Brazil and German. But it was clear that the revelation provided the political momentum to trigger today's move to the United Nations. The blowback from the NSA leaks continues to agonize U.S. diplomats and military officials concerned about America's image abroad.

"This is an example of the very worst aspects of the Snowden disclosures," a former defense official with deep experience in NATO, told The Cable, referring to former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. "It will be very difficult for the US to dig out of this, although we will over time. The short term costs in credibility and trust are enormous."...

Report: NSA Spied on 124 Billion Phone Calls in One Month

October 23, 2013 3:10 pm - Tallies of top-secret documents show widespread data collection. The National Security Agency recorded information about more than 124 billion phone calls during a 30-day period earlier this year, including around 3 billion calls from U.S. sources, according to a tally from top-secret documents released by multiple news outlets.

Documents revealing details about the NSA’s Boundless Informant program show that information regarding billions of phone calls and computer communications was collected by the agency from across the world. Boundless Informant "allows users to select a country on a map and view the meta data volume and select details about the collections against that country," according to the Guardian, which first reported on the top secret program earlier this year.

Multiple leaked screenshots of the Boundless Informant program show that information on around 124.8 billion phone calls were collected in just 30-days this year, according to documents released by the Guardian and other news sites. The documents provide a window into the sheer volume of data being collected by the NSA as late as March of this year, according to the Guardian...
