6 Police Officers Charged With The Death Of Freddie Gray (Video)

Six police officers in Baltimore, Maryland have been charged in the death of local 25-year-old man, Freddie Gray, who died under suspicious circumstances. Gray was minding his own business, when he was spotted by the officers. Gray became afraid and ran. The police officers engaged in a pursuit, catching and beating Gray, who had committed no crime.

As Gray was dragged to a police van, bystanders stated to officers "his leg is broken." However, a subsequent autopsy found no broken leg. The autopsy did note crushed ribs, a crushed windpipe and broken spine. Spinal injuries can lead to paralysis, rendering a patient unable to move their arms and legs. The damage to his spine that progressively became worse, likely created the illusion of a limp, broken, unresponsive leg.

Authorities tried to state Gray injured himself in the police van. However, some Baltimore police have received complains in the past for deliberately placing detainees in vans and driving recklessly in the city, speeding and then abruptly stopping, to toss arrested people around in the vehicle. It further paints a portrait of police brutality and excessive force.

Mother Drags Her Son From Baltimore Riots After Seeing Him On TV Throwing Rocks At Cops (Video)

Many in Baltimore have been protesting and rioting over the murder of innocent man, Freddie Gray, who was illegally detained and killed while in the custody of several police officers. The Judiciary Report is in favor of peaceful protests, as opposed to rioting and looting. Many feel the same. For example Toya Graham, a mother of six, who was watching television during the Baltimore riots on Monday. While watching television she spotted her 16-year-old son wearing a mask and throwing rocks at police officers. This was very dangerous.

Graham went to the riots and retrieved her son from the crowd by force, pulling him by his sweater and slapping him. The story made headlines all over the country as has been featured on many news reports. Graham explained she did not want her son to become "another Freddie Gray" killed by police.

Riots Erupt In Baltimore Over Freddie Gray Killing By Cops Reiterating The Need For A Federal Law Regarding Police Brutality (Video)

Today was the funeral of Freddie Gray, a man in Baltimore, Maryland, who was the subject of deadly police brutality and excessive force, simply for running in fear from several police officers. Gray had committed no crime, but became afraid when he saw several police officers staring at him.

Gray ran away and was caught and beaten. Gray was dragged into an ambulance and hours later pronounced dead at the hospital. His spine was snapped and ribs crushed, all while in police custody. No one is saying what truly happened to Gray, which has resulted in rage from people in Baltimore. This rage turned into violence as riots erupted.

The people of Baltimore have every right to be angry at the violence being directed at black people. However, rioting and looting is not the answer. Peaceful protests would be better. Gray's death is the latest of many at the hands of select police officers in America, who have used an extraordinary amount of force against black people.

It is painfully clear there needs to be a federal law enacted at a congressional level to address police brutality. Clear lines need to be drawn in the proverbial sand, regarding what is acceptable and unacceptable conduct from police officers. There should be stiff penalties to any officer who engages in police brutality and excessive force.

Brinsley crept up on the officer's patrol car from behind and shot them in the head in a terrible ambush attack. Brinsley's mother stated he has struggled with mental illness his entire life and tried to commit suicide at age 13. He was an aspiring rapper, who made troubled posts on social networking espousing violence against police.

As the Judiciary Report has repeatedly stated, there are good and bad cops out there. You can't paint everyone with the same brush, writing off all police nor should you seek to take the law into your own hands in harming an officer of the law. This was not self-defense. This was the execution of two police officers who were not engaged in any wrongdoing. Violence only begets more violence. They key is to stop murders, not create more. That does not solve anything, only makes things worse.
