Flint, Michigan Residents Paying $200 Per Month For Lead Polluted Toxic Drinking Water

Imagine you were being forced to drink suspiciously brown colored water every day that bears a foul smell. Imagine you had to bathe in it daily as well for years. Imagine you were charged $300 per month for this offensive, toxic water and if you didn't like it, you were forced to shell out hundreds of dollars per month in bottled water.

Well, that's what the 99,000 low income residents of Flint, Michigan have endured since 2011. They've been forced to pay for poison water that has killed some residents in Flint, while making others quite ill. Despite their protests, nothing has been done. Recent bad publicity is forcing the government's hand in addressing the problem.

However, cancer rates are going to soar in Flint, Michigan. In ingesting the lead polluted water, where other toxins are also present as contaminants, particles attach to the cells damage the cellular structure (of the human body).

The U.S. Government is once again showing the nation and the world it does not care about black people. The largely African-American city of Flint, Michigan, home to 55,000 residents, has been has been subjected to lead poisoning in drinking and bathing water. Many people have died and others sickened by the lead poisoning.

The citizens of Flint have complained about the brown colored, toxic water for years and nothing has been done about. The  governor of the state, Rick Snyder, has pledge to fix the problem, but is refusing to fix the corroded, lead contaminated pipes, despite a state surplus of $1.2 billion dollars.

Congress should have immediately approved emergency funds through a bill to address the problem, then take the money back from the State of Michigan's surplus. It is a serious crisis that will impact the resident of Flint who have been exposed to the contaminants for years to come. The cancer rates will soar in Flint. Neurological disorders will also become more prominent in the area. 

When you buy a home, if it is discovered the property had lead paint, a specialist team, who are dressed in hazmat gear, will come out to the residence, carefully prep it and gingerly remove all the lead paint, careful not to drop any of it in surrounding areas, then package it all for proper disposal. They don't even allow themselves to be exposed to it. Now think about the fact the residents of Flint have been drinking and bathing in these terrible toxins for 2-years. It is a real human crisis that needs to be swiftly addressed and those responsible held to account in a court of law.

The local government of the U.S. city, Flint, Michigan have come under fire over a water pollution scandal in the predominantly black and lower income region. People have died and many made ill, including children, from lead poison in the local water supply. The government was woefully slow to address the issue.

The scandal is being accompanied by cries of racism. A headline in Rolling Stone magazine bluntly blared, "Who poisoned Flint, Michigan?" The Huffington Post wrote "How Flint's Water Got Poisonous." The New Yorker wrote "The Contempt That Poisoned Flint's Water." A quote in the New York Times opined, "If Flint were rich and mostly white, would Michigan's state government have responded more quickly and aggressively to complaints about its lead-polluted water?" Things have gotten so bad the governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder, was forced to speak to the New York Times in an article proclaiming, "Michigan Governor Says Race Had No Role In Flint Water Response."

It has been my personal view for years that the federal government has stopped giving a darn about Michigan over the past decade. The government, both state and federal (national) allowed Michigan, particularly Detroit, to rot. A city full of history that has done much for America by way of the auto industry and Motown in music, has gone largely neglected. Beautiful buildings and homes bludgeoned by the financial crisis were bulldozed and turned into parks and other variants of open spaces, while two administrations in a row spent trillions on destructive wars in the Middle East (Obama Could Rebuild American Cities If...).

The Judiciary Report petitioned via the site for the auto industry in Michigan to receive a federal financial bailout and months later they did, which helped them preserve jobs and stay afloat during the financial crisis caused by the Bush Administration and its negligent Laissez Faire policies. The auto industry has paid back much of the loans. However, the government still has not done enough to help a state that played an integral part in the nation's history.

Profits Ahead Of People

CBS News program “60 Minutes” aired a segment on Duke Energy and the company’s poor coal ash removal practices currently contaminating drinking and fishing waters in select U.S. states. The most damage has been done in north Carolina, where toxic items such as arsenic have been discovered in drinking and fishing water adjacent to Duke’s plants and their coal ash ponds. The ponds were never lined which has resulted in the coal ash contaminating soil and nearby drinking water.

It is important that drinking and fishing water be kept to the highest standards of purity, as contamination with coal ash and by products such as arsenic, is cancerous. This is a prime example of corporation putting profits ahead of people. Initial government fines Duke Energy was assessed were paltry, totaling approximately $100,000. The most recent fines are approximately $100,000,000. However, it is not enough money to clean up the environmental damage that has been done.

Every year coal-burning power plants generate not only electricity but a staggering amount of leftover coal ash that contains heavy metals unhealthy to humans. Yet due in part to intense industry lobbying, oversight over disposal has been largely left in the hands of state officials and employees, who are often beholden to the powerful, local utility companies.

For decades coal ash was just dumped into giant pits dug by rivers and lakes, where toxins could leach into nearby water and soil. There are over 1,000 ash pits or ponds dotting the nation, many of them old, poorly monitored, all but forgotten. But as we first reported back in December, every few years we are reminded that this can lead to disaster like the coal-ash spill in February last year into North Carolina's Dan River at a power plant owned by Duke Energy, the biggest utility company in the country.

The spill at Dan River happened when a drainage pipe that ran underneath an ash basin and dam, collapsed, sucking out six decades of waste and spewing gunk directly into the river. Usher’s Ex-Wife Demands Custody In Court After Son Almost Drowns

Tameka Foster Raymond, the ex-wife of singer, Usher, requested an emergency court hearing in Atlanta, to demand custody of the former couple’s two children, after the oldest, Usher Raymond IV, nearly drowned yesterday while in his dad’s care.

The accident occurred when the 5-year-old boy jumped in the pool at his father’s Atlanta mansion, to retrieve a toy. He became stuck on the pool drain, which had no cover. Usher was not home at the time but the boy was being supervised by his aunt, who was unable to remove him from the powerful suction of the pool drain. The housekeeper was not able to remove him from the pool drain either. A male contractor working on the house was able to free the child from the drain by force. He was transported to the hospital and placed in the intensive care unit for observation.

Tameka is citing this as grounds Usher should not have custody. A judge is scheduled to make a determination on the motion, in what has been an already contentious custody battle for two kids who have seen far too much.

Is Justin Bieber breaking under pressure. The teen pop star has faced a rough few months, being dumped by girlfriend Selena Gomez for constant cheating, leaked photos of him smoking marijuana, a deadly accident involving paparazzo Chris Guerra, who was following him around, one of his sex partners being uncovered by Star magazine and now a disc jockey accusing him of terrible beavhior.

North Carolina disc jockey, Colette Harrington, accused Bieber and two members of his entourage of harassing her at the gym in Charlotte's Ritz Carlton. She stated she was told "shut the f*** up" as she counted out reps while exercising in the gym. Shortly after, she states Bieber spit a blue colored sports drink into her bottled water.

The next day Bieber was hit with more problems, as a group of girls engaged in conduct at his hotel that made him angry. So upset was he, Bieber slammed his "fans." A post on his Twitter page read, "To the rude people on my hotel floor never have I had fans be so disrespectful in my life. Smh #berespectful."

The singer did not elaborate on what occurred, but it wasn't a good idea referring to one's "fans" in that manner. It seems Bieber's temper has become short of late. He's clearly going through a number of issues. Bieber needs to remember the fact he is a role model to millions of young impressionable girls. That's something to be taken seriously. He needs to set a positive example for them.

Of late Bieber has been doing troubling things that his young preteen and teen audience are watching. Don't lead them astray. God gave you a platform in life. Use it to do positive things. Getting into confrontations, mooning people, taking drugs, getting drunk and bedding numerous women is not the way. You'll end up like every other former child star who crashed and burned. Learn from them and do not repeat their errors anymore. That's how Lindsay Lohan got started.

Furthermore, if your so-called friends were really your friends, they wouldn't encourage you in this behavior. They are leeching off you, trying to raise their profiles and get attention at your expense, while costing you endorsements and career opportunities. Not to mention, alarming your fans' parents. None of us are perfect, but Bieber you can do better than this. Your fans don't need to see your butt crack, you taking drugs, getting drunk and or speeding. The Judiciary Report is concerned something permanently bad is going to come of this. You can say you are an adult now and can do as you please, which is true, but the consequences are not always the desired outcome. Being an adult means responsibility.

Harrington stated on Facebook, "OMGOSH-wait till you hear this. So I am at the Ritz Carlton where I am a member in Charlotte. I get there and guess who is working out? Justin Bieber. Which is rather ironic since I yesterday posted about yesterday about wanting to meet him. He is with a trainer and I think one of his back up dancers. I lay low waiting for a chance to introduce myself and get a photo with him. "Hi I am Colette Harrington I host the Sweet Carolina radio show." He said, "good for you." I asked, "would be okay if I got a picture?" and he told me "no." Which was fine with me since I can understand not wanting someone taking my picture when I am sleeveless and sweaty.

I continue with my workout. I always count out loud my reps. Then Justin starts imitating me and whenever I'd get to 20 he and his buddy would say "Shut the F'ck up." I was stunned. They start complaining how they are so hungover from drinking-some drink that I never heard of before. I ignore them and keep doing my counting only in a quieter voice but they keep saying "Shut the F'up" when ever I get to 20. I am ready to punch one of them in the face or cry. I could not decide which since I felt like I was back in grade school and being made fun of. Then they start talking about spitting in people's drinks and that tonight at their concert yell, "remember when you drank my spit."

Justin guzzled his blue gatorade and spits in it. So I think that their finally off of my back but NO! They start imitating my counting again even though I am whispering. I keep on ignoring them because I am not going to cause a scene at the Ritz or lower myself to their level. Much to my relief the back singer started talking about his GF. But then started saying things about her being a virgin because she is a Muslim and has a strict Father. And so he knows that when he marries her- he'll be the first. FINALLY I had enough. (30 minutes of this crap) I left my workout station, my water bottle, mat and weights and go to the other room. I rolled my eyes at them but said NOTHING.

After a few minutes I hear the door slamming so I know they left. I go back to working out and a take drink from my water bottle only it is Justin's blue gatorade. I spit it out right way thinking about his disgusting spit. I did not look at my water bottle before taking a drink. Ty Justin-I am putting your bottle and spit up on E BAY.

Hopefully it will raise enough money to re build the kitchen at the Ronald Mc Donald House in Charleston. I go there to cook for the families of sick children. They need a better kitchen. Is the Obama Administration responding well in aiding those in America affected by Hurricane Sandy. There have been sad and heartbreaking reports of people in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) being stranded without food or water. There are reports on NBC of people in New York defecating in hallways. There was video online of New Yorkers dumpster diving for food behind a supermarket. People are being gouged on the price of food that is available, while others are being charged $15 per gallon for gas, which is tree times higher than the state average.

This begs the question, why hasn't the Obama Administration mobilized FEMA and the military yet, to bring food, water and basic medical supplies to people who are suffering as a result of this storm. Trucks and helicopters could be used to move the supplies into the affected regions in a timely manner. During Hurricane Andrew, the military was called up to aide residents, who lost just about everything, via distributing food, water and other necessary supplies.

Dealing With Radioactive Pollution

Radioactive pollution has reached heavily populated Tokyo, Japan

When professionals seek to purify items, they often turn to fire as the great refiner. In light of the fact radioactive materials have crept into the water and soil in Japan, after an unprecedented earthquake and tsunami damaged the Fukushima nuclear plant, professional, CONTROLLED burning of segments of farmland, then fresh topsoil, would be beneficial in reducing some of the pollutants.

Following the scenario of how the nuclear incident unfolded, the radioactive elements involuntarily deposited into the water and soil should not be in their purest, undiluted forms, due to rain and excessive water. Therefore, the items would not be as volatile and combustible as they normally would, if fire is introduced to said soil. The plan would work, but it would have to be carefully executed by the government to prevent accidents (translation: don't burn the country down).

As for the water, Japan is going to need a greater national filtration system to trap and breakdown the pollutants streaming through the water. They cannot leave the pollution issue unchallenged. The government could also add a sparse amount of water purifying agents for a time, to their national supply, rather than standard fluoride, to address the issue. It would help. During emergencies in hurricane prone regions, when water cannot be boiled, very small, measured amounts of chlorine is added (but it should be properly measured per gallon of water, to avoid poisoning).

What's Going On With America's Waters

This summer has not been a good one for America's waters. First, there was the BP oil spill off the coast of Louisiana. Then, there was a oil leak in Michigan's lakes. Now comes word fecal matter has polluted the waters off Martha's Vineyard, where U.S. President Obama currently vacations.

Many are wondering if the President will swim in the feces polluted water, but Obama, being a politician in Washington, should be used to swimming in manure, as they certainly know how to shovel it.

The people of Pakistan need your help. Devastating floods have left 20,000,000 people homeless. Many have died and diseases, such as cholera and dysentery and conditions, such as diarrhea and dehydration, pose a massive risk.

Many people lack food, especially children. Anything you can do to financially help would be beneficial.

Something In The Water

Japanese researchers have been issuing the international recommendation that all nations put the alleged mood stabilizing drug Lithium in public water systems. They are of the belief it will help the crime rate. I disagree with the idea of mass drugging.

Not only is it a drastic approach, there are many things to consider, such as how Lithium in the water would interact with other medications people are taking, allergic reactions and the potentially serious side effects for babies, children and even adults.

Georgiou is affiliated with the Center for Health Transformation, an organization founded by the notorious neocon Newt Gingrich.

Georgiou is also a “medical expert” for Fox News 9 in Minneapolis where she commented on a proposal to drug people during a segment on “Health Care Innovations 2009.”

“Lithium in the Water Supply: America has been adding fluoride to its public water supplies for decades to help prevent reduce tooth decay. Now researchers from Japan suggests expanding the list to lithium,” is how how Fox News 9 describes the segment.

Georgiou does not explicitly call for adding the mood-stabilizing drug to the water system, as suggested by Japanese researchers, but she does not denounce the proposed practice. Instead, she says the draconian proposal is a “very interesting concept.”

Japanese researchers, according to Georgiou, are “investigating whether trace amounts of lithium can just change the mood in a community enough — in a really positive way without having the bad effects of lithium — to really affect the mood and decrease the suicide rate.”...
