Lifetime's Whitney Houston Biopic TV Movie Slammed By Critics And Social Networking

Photo for Lifetime's biopic "Whitney"

Critics overwhelmingly rendered negative reviews for Lifetime's disgraceful Whitney Houston television movie biopic, which debuted this past Saturday, January 17, 2015. While most agree it was not as bad as the terrible job Lifetime did on the life of the late, beautiful songstress Aaliyah ("Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B"), the Whitney movie was terrible.

Whitney Houston

Many critics and people on social networking complained the movie was more about Houston's ex-husband, R&B singer Bobby Brown. Many complaints also centered around the fact the film had trashy sex scenes. The movie was historically inaccurate and defamed Whitney and her mother, legendary Gospel singer, Cissy Houston. I guess it was payback for Cissy Houston disapproving of the film, but who could blame her. The Judiciary Report was never in favor of this movie being made and now that it has been filmed and released, it has proven the site right.

Whitney Houston is one of the greatest singers of all time. What she achieved in music is historic and remarkable. Her career was never based on hype or looks, though she was a stunningly beautiful woman. Her career was all about her outstanding voice and beautiful music. Lifetime's movie failed to capture any of that. They've reduced one of the best vocalists of all time to a trashy tabloid scandal for a poorly made 2-hour piece that damaged her legacy.

Yaya DaCosta, got the nuances of the character all wrong and made Houston look like a flighty, ungraceful, scatter brained, clingy woman fluttering across stages with no poise or life of her own outside of her husband. Even with all of Houston's problems with drugs and alcohol, she had a poise and dignity about herself that was missing from this film. Lifetime and Angela Bassett, made a mockery of her life.

Wendy Williams Responds To Terrible Public Backlash Over The Aaliyah Movie In What This Site Correctly Predicted Would Be A Flop (Video)

Aaliyah

Wendy Williams produced the widely panned and slammed "Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B" made for TV movie, released by the Lifetime network. Social networking excoriated Williams and Lifetime over the poorly done film that for months prior to its release, the Judiciary Report warned against and predicted would be a major flop. They had time to back out, as the Judiciary Report stated the project would flop and being insulting to Aaliyah's memory, before they began filming.

Now that the movie has spectacularly bombed and Williams and company are being slammed for it in a major way, the gossip talk show host, who is deflated by public comments directed at her, has responded stating, "I see my Aaliyah movie broke the Internet this weekend! Errbody got an opinion. Well, I must tell you, whether you love or hate, you watched. It was the second-highest rated movie on all of cable this year so far. Not just Lifetime. All of cable."

It's sad that you think ratings and money (blood money might I add) are what matter and not actually getting a story right with the correct tact and sensitivity that was needed, regarding a young girl who was a victim of statutory rape at age 14 and died in a terrible plane crash at age 22. The only reason the movie had any viewers at all was not because of you or Lifetime, but due to the fact Aaliyah still has fans who tuned in hoping for a good film, but received a substandard and insulting movie instead. The public backlash means the film is a flop. Your name is also destroyed in filmmaking circles and no production and its attached talent wants the terrible reaction this project received.

Those who know and understand entertainment recognize that Aaliyah was a very talented girl. She never had a flop, which is no small feat in the entertainment industry. She released music that crossed over and were huge hits ("Are You That  Somebody" and "Try Again"). She also had R&B hits that made a big impact. She deserved better than this subpar biopic that disrespected her life, family and career. Plain and simply put, you were not equipped to tackle such sensitive subject matter and hurt her family, who are still grieving her death.

If I were you I would be embarrassed to have my name attached to that movie. You guys stole an idea and concepts to make the film and executed it so poorly the public reacted very badly to it. This movie should have been made by knowledgeable people, who actually know what happened regarding Aaliyah's life and work, not greedy, money and publicity hungry individuals, who know nothing about filmmaking. You disrespected the dead for money. Nothing good can come from that.

Another interesting tidbit, insiders in the industry were not happy Monday morning with the awful domestic and global public reaction and terrible reviews regarding "Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B." They are holding it against those involved in the making of the movie. The industry has been talking and it is not good for those involved in the project, as certain industry film moguls and their staff don't want things like this attached to Hollywood.

Critics Savage Madonna's "WE" Movie As Garbage

This Is What Happens When A Fraud Tries To Make A Movie

"We" (also known as wee-wee)

This is a follow up to the articles Boycott Madonna's Rip-Off "We" Movie and Boycott Madonna's Rip-Off "We" Movie - Part 2. Critics have been out in full force savaging pop tart Madonna's "We" movie, with the Guardian newspaper leading the pack.

The movie is supposed to be biographical on Wallis Simpson, but it is anything but that. Madwoman Madonna added to the movie, unrelated, unreleased, preexisting copyrighted material that has nothing to do with the royal family, which she stole and now the whole thing makes absolutely no sense, as critics have publicly attested this week.

Mad-onna

This is what happens when a thief/fraud tries to make a film they stole - it ends up nonsensical, devalued and stripped of its artistic merit, at the hands of a lazy, unintelligent, sociopathic troublemaker, who refuses to work for a living, opting to steal her way through life and teaching her children to questionably and feloniously do the same. To make matters worse, as she publicly announced, she roped the royal family into helping her make the film and it is going to become a source of lasting shame to them.

Taylor Momsen Slams Critics For Slamming Her

Taylor Momsen

Immature, whining "Gossip Girl" actress, Taylor Momsen, has slammed her critics, for denouncing her underage hard partying, promiscuity, drug taking and smoking. The 17-yer-old drug addict and alcoholic has decried negative comments on her wild conduct, stating she is "a product" and people's opinions on her do not matter.

If she is so carefree and nonchalant about the whole thing, why is she bringing it up, harping on the negative press. Clearly it has gotten to her. However, if her conduct were not so irresponsible and setting a horrific example for her audience, people would not vociferously denounce it as terrible for teens.

Written by John on Dec-28-10 9:12am - ..."I woke up and was like, 'I get it, I'm a product.' "The Pretty Reckless singer – who achieved widespread exposure at 14 years old after starring Gossip Girl – wasn't prepared for fame but insists she doesn't worry about living her life in the spotlight or what other people think of her...

"But you get used to it. You ignore it – because whatever people say about me doesn't bother me at all. If you're in high school or college or at work, someone's not going to like you. It's inevitable. But it doesn't mean anything."

Obama: They Are Talking About Me Like A Dog

During a speech today in Milwaukee, U.S. President, Barack Obama, commented on his many critics that are, as he so ineloquently put it, "Talking about me like a dog." Once again, as stated last week, the pressure of being President of the United States, has clearly become too much for Obama, as he is focusing on the wrong things.

Barack Obama

Obama now speaks more of his critics, than the task at hand, his job as President, as it relates to the economy, national security and ongoing wars in the Middle East. Constantly being easily distracted by criticism, much of it deserved, is putting ego first and job second.
