As someone who was a child in the 1980's, I can tell you, director John Hughes' films were everywhere. He passed away today in Manhattan from a heart attack. He was 59. Another Hollywood icon has died.

My favorite John Hughes film is "Home Alone 2" which was made in 1992. Just a few weeks ago, it was broadcast on television again, I watched it with my family and laughed. Good storytelling is timeless. Something that does not really exist in Hollywood anymore.

He also made other notable films I enjoyed such as Dennis the Menace, Curly Sue, 101 Dalmatians, Baby's Day Out and Beethoven.

Other films teenagers remember him for are Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Some Kind of Wonderful.

NEW YORK — Writer-director John Hughes, Hollywood's youth impresario of the 1980s and '90s who captured the teen and preteen market with such favorites as "Home Alone," "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," died Thursday, a spokeswoman said. He was 59.

The United States Drug Enforcement Agency, has arrested and indicted Hollywood actor, Cameron Douglas, the son of wealthy veteran actor, Michael Douglas, the star of such films as "Wall Street" for dealing in large quantities of crystal meth. He is accused of selling many pounds of the drug and as such, he is now facing a decade in prison if convicted.

True to federal form, the DEA was silently watching Cameron Douglas for years (three), quietly conducting an investigation, moving in on him this week, with criminal charges that came as a surprise to many.

Many of you are probably wondering, why the son of a rich actor would become a drug dealer. Maybe his dad cut him off financially, not wanting to support his habit and it mushroomed into something else, drug dealing.

"There's real value in the quality of life in France. They've got a great healthcare system, great education. Banks Still Not Helping Homeowners

As I have stated for months, banks are not doing enough to help distressed homeowners and it is driving up the foreclosure rate in America to record highs.

Government data released yesterday, affirms what I have been writing for months regarding the aforementioned matter, as it has been revealed this week, via national figures, only 9% of eligible homeowners have been helped by the billions in bank bailouts, funded by U.S. taxpayer money, which is a disgrace.

Banks are holding on to the money, investing it in other endeavors and not helping the American people, whose homes are at stake. Hence the higher foreclosure rates.

Had the banks held up their end of the bargain, in accepting enormous sums of taxpayer money and actually used it for what the funds where earmarked for, the economy would have experienced a better quarter.

As I have also stated for months, the government cannot play nice with a lot of these banks, as they do not understand that sort of language and conduct, interpreting it as weakness.

We see the end result of that this week, as the numbers confirm, banks have been audaciously hording taxpayer money. It is the equivalent of one's car breaking down, sending an assistant to buy a container of gas, they return with the gas purchased with your money and state, "I'm only going to give you 9% of the gas in this full container, bought with your money. It really won't get you very far, but that's your problem."

Side Bar: If I were head of state anywhere in this world and had to deal with an unruly banking sector, when I called them together in the aforementioned meeting Obama convened a few months ago, I would have let them talk their butts off then simply stated, "Thank you for coming here today. Let's cut to the chase. If I don't see a massive drop in fraud, a sizeable reduction in unjustifiable bonuses and more legitimate consumer loan modifications of a fair and sustainable nature, I'm going to start locking your employees up and I cannot guarantee it won't reach your personal executive office."

Then, I would offer them some coffee, as business people like that after they've been given soul shaking news. It aids in calming their nerves and temporarily helps them not to think about the human lion that's about to figuratively maul them, if they run amok at the taxpayers' expense (grin).

Published: August 4, 2009 - WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department said on Tuesday that only a small number of homeowners — 235,247, or 9 percent of those eligible — had been helped by the latest government program created to modify home loans and prevent foreclosures.

A report released by Treasury officials identified lenders who had made slow progress in offering more affordable mortgages, naming Bank of America and Wells Fargo as among those failing to reach large numbers of eligible borrowers.

While 15 percent of eligible homeowners have been offered help through the mortgage modification program, the low rate of actual mortgage reductions has frustrated administration officials.

Michael S. Barr, the assistant secretary for financial institutions, said in a news conference that there were “significant variations” in performance and that some institutions had made “an infinitesimally small amount” of progress.

“I think it’s safe to say we’re disappointed in the performance of some of the servicers,” Mr. Barr said. “We expect them to do more.”

The release of data showing the progress of individual institutions is part of a Treasury effort to push banks to modify loans faster.

Under the $75 billion program, homeowners whose monthly mortgage payments are more than 31 percent of their gross income are eligible for modified loans, with interest rates as low as 2 percent.

Bank of America has modified only 4 percent of the eligible mortgages, and Wells Fargo has modified 6 percent.

Citimortgage, a unit of Citigroup, fared better at 15 percent, while JPMorgan Chase was among the most successful, modifying loans for 20 percent of eligible borrowers. All four institutions received federal bailout money...

Stocks Slide on Worse-Than-Expected Jobs Report

On Wednesday the focus was on a report showing that the number of private-sector jobs fell by 371,000 in July, according to payroll company Automatic Data Processing and Macroeconomic Advisers. That was slightly worse than analysts were expecting and indicated that employers continue to slash jobs, though at a lower rate than earlier this year.

The data "suggest the unemployment rate continues to rocket and household cash flows continue to fall. Not a great outlook for spending, we'd say," said Ian Shepherdson, an economist for High Frequency Economics.

U.S. Tax Revenues Fall To 80 Year Low

If you've been paying attention to the news any at all, you would have read headlines about the IRS clamping down on famous tax dodgers, who owe the government billions in uncollected taxes. There is a reason for that. Tax revenue in America is at a 80 year low.

U.S. economic numbers have not been this bad since, once again, the Great Depression. It's very telling that so many aspects of the current financial crisis, which is the sole result of the crookedness George W. Bush utilized in public office, are comparable to the Great Depression, with the housing arm of the current recession-turned-depression, surpassing that of the great financial collapse several decades ago.

Had the George W. Bush administration maintain simple financial common sense, during its deceitful 8-year-term, rather than resorting to thievery, gouging and ponzi schemes as the illusion-based way to prosperity, the funds coming into the treasury would have increased, not deceased, as businesses and citizens would be thriving, not diving toward financial calamity.

Let's be clear. The only way to true financial prosperity is hardwork and diligence. There are no shortcuts, as those lead to dead ends. When a government allows lawbreaking criminals to run loose in the corporate sector, robbing, defrauding and gouging citizens, in essence devaluing wealth, expect financial disaster for the entire nation, regardless of where it is located in the world.

Federal tax revenues plummeting

WASHINGTON – The recession is starving the government of tax revenue, just as the president and Congress are piling a major expansion of health care and other programs on the nation's plate and struggling to find money to pay the tab.

The numbers could hardly be more stark: Tax receipts are on pace to drop 18 percent this year, the biggest single-year decline since the Great Depression, while the federal deficit balloons to a record $1.8 trillion.

Other figures in an Associated Press analysis underscore the recession's impact: Individual income tax receipts are down 22 percent from a year ago. Corporate income taxes are down 57 percent. Social Security tax receipts could drop for only the second time since 1940, and Medicare taxes are on pace to drop for only the third time ever.

The last time the government's revenues were this bleak, the year was 1932 in the midst of the Depression.

"Our tax system is already inadequate to support the promises our government has made," said Eugene Steuerle, a former Treasury Department official in the Reagan administration who is now vice president of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.

"This just adds to the problem." While much of Washington is focused on how to pay for new programs such as overhauling health care — at a cost of $1 trillion over the next decade — existing programs are feeling the pinch, too.

Social Security is in danger of running out of money earlier than the government projected just a few month ago. Highway, mass transit and airport projects are at risk because fuel and industry taxes are declining.

The national debt already exceeds $11 trillion. And bills just completed by the House would boost domestic agencies' spending by 11 percent in 2010 and military spending by 4 percent...

First a group of black children are unlawfully and unconstitutionally denied access to a club swimming pool, even though they paid their dues.

Now comes a lawsuit that looks like it was filed 60 years ago, regarding a waste transfer company in Philadelphia, called Gibson Trowery, maintaining whites only bathrooms and water coolers. Yes, you read that correctly.

It's awful when something like this slaps you in the face in modern times. You feel as though someone set the clock back several decades. I kept reading the following article thinking, this has to be a joke or some kind of satire site, but it is real.

Alleged Racism in Philly Workplace: Whites Only Bathroom, Water Cooler

August 2, 2009 - ”As a man I would have put my elbow down his throat. You’re not going to talk to me like that.” That’s what supervisor John Gill allegedly said to a black shop steward who brought black worker complaints to his attention. Two black employees are now suing the city, claiming decades of racial discrimination and harassment suffered by black employees at a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, waste transfer plant.

Leslie Young, a former worker and Gibson Trowery, who still works at the station, filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission in October 2007. Their attorney, Howard K. Trubman describes shocking instances of workplace racism, not seen since the Jim Crow days.

The alleged racial segregation imposed on the workplace by the supervisor, led to increased tension between black and white workers, with the two groups remaining apart with little interaction.

The workers’ complaint says supervisor John Gill kept segregated bathrooms for white and black workers. The white bathroom was conveniently located and was kept locked, with only white workers having access to the keys. The bathroom set aside for black workers, was down five flights of stairs and kept in poor condition.

The complaint says that black workers attempting to use the “whites only bathroom” risked being suspended from their jobs. “It was very degrading and humiliating,” said Young.

The segregated bathrooms were not the only humiliation imposed on black workers at the waste transfer plant. The complaint also alleges that only the white workers were permitted to drive the newer garbage trucks. The so-called “white driver’s” keys” were kept in a locked drawer of the supervisor’s desk.

Additionally, Gill the supervisor kept a chilled water cooler in his office, that he only made available to white workers, reserving a water fountain elsewhere in the building for black workers. Young recalled one very hot summer day, when the cool water was denied to black workers...

A trial is expected next summer and the lawsuit is seeking Gill’s dismissal in addition to monetary damages.

The FBI And Racism

There have been a number of lawsuits filed against the FBI, stemming from racial incidents, perpetrated by the Bureau. Agents often use horrible racial slurs and sexist speak against innocent people, deeming it their duty to behave like uncouth meatheads raised on a KKK ranch.

While all FBI agents are not racists, some of them are nice and decent, quite a few are hateful towards non-white males and it has tainted the agency's name among minorities and immigrants.

Blacks, Muslims, Hispanics and immigrants have faced horrible discrimination at the FBI's hands. Let's not forget, this is the law enforcement agency that murdered the great Martin Luther King Jr. for being an outspoken black man that dared to state and believe all men are equal.

Women have also been treated deplorably by the FBI, as though they are inferior, facing numerous incidents of sexual abuse, harassment and discrimination.

Some racial incidents transpire against FBI agents by other FBI agents, such as the New York field office of the FBI, who routinely subjugated black and Hispanic agents to racial slurs and nasty stereotypes.

This resulted in a lawsuit against the FBI, filed by minority agents in the New York office, who could no longer tolerate the hostile, hateful, racist work environment.

More accusations have been made against the FBI in this vein, this time, it is anti-Semitism. FBI agents handling a Pentagon employee, Larry Franklin, routinely asked him to identify Jewish people in said government office and questioned him as to how he could consort with them. That is vile. The FBI has declined comment. Oh, I wonder why, could it be the accusations are true.

If you are an agent in the FBI and this is your racist, sexist attitude, you need to get out of the Bureau and go join the Klan, until they get raided, that is, for inevitably doing something they are not supposed to do.

God made us all equal and if you value your eternal soul, you would do well to believe and practice that universal law.

Franklin: Some FBI agents anti-Semitic

August 3, 2009 - WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The former Pentagon official at the center of the classified information case involving AIPAC staffers accused some FBI agents of displaying anti-Semitism.

Larry Franklin, an Iran analyst in 2004 when he helped the FBI set up a sting targeting Keith Weissman, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's former Iran analyst, and Steve Rosen, its former former policy chief, said some of his FBI handlers at times appeared to be motivated by hostility to Jews.

"One agent said to me, 'How can an Irish Catholic from the Bronx get mixed up with all these ...' and I finished the sentence for him: 'Jews?' " Franklin said in an interview published July 31 by the Washington Times.

The FBI, which had caught Franklin removing classified information from the Pentagon to his West Virginia home and revealing classified information, co-opted him in its attempt to build a case against the lobbyists. Franklin wore a wire to lure Weissman and Rosen into the FBI sting.

Franklin told the Washington Times not all agents dealing with him were were anti-Semitic, but some asked him to identify Jews in the Pentagon. The FBI declined comment.

The government charged Rosen and Weissman with dealing in classified information in 2005 and also charged Franklin, despite his cooperation. He pleaded guilty.

This year, the government dropped its case against Rosen and Weissman. The federal judge in the case, T.S. Ellis III, reduced Franklin’s sentence from nearly 13 years to probation.

In what was an extraordinarily poor judicial ruling, Judge Rolf M. Treu, decreed a dubious decision against a slain 19-month-old toddler, Suzie Pena, in favor of the Los Angles Police Department, who killed the child, through criminal negligence in a shoot out.

Her father was drunk and high, whilst holding her hostage. The LAPD stormed the room and began firing at him, also killing the child. The toddler's mother, Lorena Lopez, argued they could have reasoned with him more, rather than shoot, which I agree with.

If the father's bullet had killed the child, the liability on the Los Angeles Police Department would be significantly less. As it stands, a FBI/SWAT member's bullet killed the toddler, therefore they are culpable. They fired 160 shots at this drunken man and his toddler. Something terrible was bound to happen.

This case constitutes a clear incident of wrongful death. The most her father was guilty of is child endangerment and kidnapping. I struggle to comprehend how any judge could rule against an injured or deceased child and their family. It gives the appearance of outright corruption and lack of compassion.

Reason it away anyway you'd like, if you lost your child due to a gun fight from FBI/SWAT, where like in many car chases that endanger others, they could have relented for public safety, you would want the culprits brought to justice and be legally compelled to pay fines in court, as punishment for your loss. Some people only care when the tragedy befalls them.

Judge dismisses suit filed by mother of toddler killed by LAPD bullet [Updated]

11:08 AM | August 3, 2009 - In a victory for the Los Angeles Police Department, a judge this morning threw out a lawsuit filed against the city of Los Angeles by the mother of a 19-month-old toddler who was shot and killed by a bullet from SWAT officers during an attempted hostage rescue in 2005.

The case before L.A. Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu was set to go to the jury this week after SWAT officers and police experts completed their testimony.

But Treu this morning granted the city's motion to dismiss the case, saying a jury could only reach one conclusion: that the officers acted reasonably.

Attorneys for Lorena Lopez, mother of 1 1/2-year-old Suzie Pena, argued in the trial that officers should have retreated and negotiated further with Raul Pena, who was delirious on alcohol and cocaine and holding his daughter hostage in the office of his car dealership on July 10, 2005.

The city contended that officers attempted the rescue in the best tactical way possible, and that the baby's father was the only one to blame for her death because he repeatedly held her as a shield during the hours-long standoff...

The Jackson family patriarch lives in Las Vegas and wrote in a statement filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday that he only occasionally visits the family home in the San Fernando Valley, north of downtown Los Angeles.

"I have had a close family relationship with these grandchildren since their birth," Jackson wrote in the declaration dated July 13. "I do visit the family residence from time to time and will continue to do so, however I will not be involved in raising the children."

His two-page declaration expresses support for his wife, Katherine, who on Monday was granted permanent custody of Michael Jackson's three children.

In a telling twist, Rihanna is seeking to have the judge's restraining order diminished to nothing, which would allow her to maintain contact with Brown, without him being sentenced to prison for violating the judge's orders. As I've stated all along, for months, those two have been together throughout this madness.

Aug 5 2009 6:33 PM EDT - Judge is seeking additional information from Brown's native Virginia to make sure plea deal is upheld.

Chris Brown's sentencing, scheduled for Wednesday (August 5), has been delayed until August 27. The judge in the case is seeking additional information from the singer's home state of Virginia on whether it can accommodate mandates included in Brown's proposed plea deal.

Under the guidelines of the plea reached last month, Brown will be under probation for five years, attend weekly counseling and perform community labor service.

According to The Associated Press, Judge Patricia Schnegg has yet to hear back from officials in Virginia, where Brown is expected to serve out his sentence. Schnegg apparently wants to make sure Brown endures community labor work and not just community service. She made the announcement in court following a brief meeting with a prosecutor and Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, according to the AP...

Sony quarterly loss $391 mln, expects more red ink

TOKYO — Sony Corp. stuck to a forecast for big full year losses, citing falling gadget prices and a shaky global recovery, even as it posted less-dismal-than-expected results for the fiscal first quarter.

The maker of the PlayStation 3 game machine and Walkman portable music player said Thursday it sank to a net loss for April-June of 37.1 billion yen ($391 million) from a 35 billion yen profit a year earlier. Quarterly sales dropped 19.2 percent to 1.56 trillion yen ($16.4 billion).

The results were better than expected because of cost cuts, an easing of the yen's appreciation and gains on the Tokyo stock market, according to Sony, which also has music and movie divisions. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were forecasting a 109 billion yen loss.

A new management team under Chief Executive Howard Stringer has been promising a nimbler Sony, but little in the way of specifics has been revealed. For decades, Sony, founded in 1946, was synonymous with quality electronics but in recent years the company has lost its footing, taking an embarrassing beating in portable music players from the iPod from Apple Inc. and falling behind in flat panel TVs...
