Video Game Addiction - Part 2

A 16-year-old's "World of Warcraft" meltdown

This is a follow up to the January 3, 2010 article "Video Game Addiction" regarding kids suffering bad side effects from too much video gaming. A study released this week indicates, "Excessive videogaming linked to depression in kids." Parents need to observe their children and watch for signs of video game addiction, as it is not a joke and can turn violent. Video gaming acts as conditioning in some and if the games they are frequently playing contains violence, it could instill hostility and anger in them, liable to erupt without provocation.

Video Game Addiction

"World of Warcraft" is a dark and violent video game filled with occult images

The following videos illustrate the problem of gaming addiction among some preteens and teens. Video games are great, but in moderation. Spending too much time on a video game system will take away from other important areas of one's life.

The first video features a teenager becoming terribly enraged, when his mother suspends his "World of Warcraft" online video game account. He violently throws himself around his bedroom in a dangerous rage, hits himself, wails like a pig and tries to insert a remote control in his backside (not as graphic as it sounds). The display reveals he is in need of psychiatric assistance.

The second video features a cute little boy getting angry at his parents for giving him books for Christmas, even thought they purchased a Wii video game system for him as well. It is comedic is some respects, but a little sad in another, as the child expressed a complete disdain for books.

The third and final video features an adorable English boy named Jacob, being taunted by his older brother, ordering him to shutdown his Xbox 360 after a prolonged period of play. A vulnerable Jacob bursts into tears.

However, Price seduced him online whilst playing the video game "World of Warcraft" and did so from her Houston home in America. As such, she violated U.S. law and has been appropriately arrested.

Houston mom accused of soliciting Canadian teenager online

Posted on January 6, 2010 at 6:38 PM - HOUSTON-A 42-year-old Houston mother was behind bars Tuesday, accused of having a relationship with a 16-year-old boy.

Lauri Price is charged with three counts of solicitation of a child over the Internet.

Authorities say she struck up a relationship online with a boy who lives in Canada. They met in the fall of 2008 while playing the popular video game "World of Warcraft," according to investigators.

They said Price flew to Toronto to meet the boy.

"She got the young man -- who is now 16-years of age -- to leave the home, leave his parents," said Lt. Mathew Gray with the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force. "And they went to a local bed and breakfast where some sexual activity took place."

The teen's parents reported him missing and an alert was issued in the town of Barrie...

Price, who has four children of her own, is being held on a $300,000 bond.
