Whitney Houston
Funeral plans are underway for award winning singer, Whitney Houston, who died on February 11, 2012. It is being reported she will be buried in her native New Jersey on Saturday, February 18, 2012, after a private ceremony at her childhood church New Hope Baptist, where she sang in the choir. Preacher and singer Marvin Winans will preside over the service.
The Mayor of Newark, Cory Booker, has stated the Houston family declined the offer to have a public memorial and viewing in the Prudential Center. The Mayor's office stated, "The Houston family has no plans to set up a public viewing at the Prudential Center this Friday. In compliance with the family’s wishes the city is not moving forward with any public ceremony." However, some are reporting the church service will be televised.
