Are There Too Many Weight Classes And Boxing Organizations

Are there too many boxing organizations (WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF) and weight divisions? No. I think it gives many boxers a chance to really shine and the opportunity to get a belt/title. It creates more opportunities, jobs and boxing matches for audiences via a plethora of competition.

To the boxers who reach the top of their ranks, they can choose to fight for all the belts within their weight class, in an attempt to unify the division, which is not easy, but history has proven it is achievable (light flyweight, flyweight, bantamweight, lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, middleweight, cruiserweight, heavyweight, super heavyweight ect). Therefore, the system works and is beneficial to the sport. It gives many athletes the chance to ear a decent, honest living doing what they love.

Deontay Wilder Claims The WBC Heavyweight Belt In Victory Over Bermane Stiverne

29-year-old Alabama boxer, Deontay "The Bronze Bomber" Wilder, has claimed the WBC heavyweight championship in an exciting, brutal bout against then reigning 36-year-old Haitian-Canadian champ, Bermane Stiverne. The scorecards clocked the fight at 120-107, 119-108 and 118-109 in a unanimous decision. It marks the first time an American has held the title since 2007 (former champion Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs).

Stiverne, a tough and worthy champion, who was the first Haitian heavyweight champion of the world in a remarkable feat, was the favorite going into the fight. However, for months I have been stating on this site and Twitter that Wilder is a force to be reckoned with and is America's top prospect and he proved me right. Wilder is a massive power puncher, with a unusual punching style that is difficult for most to withstand. It has produced a perfect record of 33-0. Credit to Stiverne to have withstood those shots for 12 whole rounds, as most of Wilder's opponents crumble within 4.

I am of the belief, the hope of retaining the title kept Stiverne going, because at many points during the fight, it was painfully evident he was hurt and in a significant amount of pain. At times he looked as though he was doing his best not to pass out. I hope there is no long term neurological damage. However, he has nothing to be ashamed of. He put up a good fight and took Wilder the distance, something no one else can state in his professional career thus far.

 

Wilder seeks to fight the top man in heavyweight boxing, the Ukraine's Wladmir Klitschko. It is being stated Wilder also wants to fight British champion, Tyson Fury, who is also keen on a potential bout. Wilder's contract with boxing promoter, Golden Boy, has now expired and he is currently in negotiations.

In boxing fighters always want to fight the reigning champ in their weight class. Even amateurs harbor reams of turning pro and taking on the top dog as soon as possible. However, in boxing there is a pecking order. You have to earn the right to fight the champ. You have to pay your dues. This is beneficial for a number of reasons.

Taking on someone with far more experience can result in serious, career altering injury. Therefore, the skill levels should be matched or at worst close. Fights must be properly matched. This is fair to the boxers and the fans, giving the former experience and the latter a good show. The best way to hone your craft and develop your skills is via experience. You are not born ready. You have to learn your trade.

It's also not good for one's career to lose a match too early. The more wins you accumulate, the better for your development and finances, as endorsers like backing winners. Therefore, let the pecking order work for you. Take the time to develop your craft. Observe, experience and learn. Turn yourself into the best boxer you can be, so when the moment comes to take on the champ, you'll be ready and do yourself proud.

Tyson Fury v. Dereck Chisora Postponed Due To Fractured Wrist

Boxers Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora were scheduled for a bout this week on July 26, 2014 in Manchester, England. However, the rematch has been postponed with Chisora citing a fractured wrist he states occurred during sparring.

Fury won their previous outing and got back into shape to fight Chisora, increasing his chances of a win. Fury became furious today at the news. Chisora stated to him on Twitter, "Sorry mate would have been a very good fight we get it on next month don't complain about the money you give 10,000 to your kids."

Boxer Shannon Briggs stated on Twitter, "Just got word that the big dummy Lerch aka Tyson Fury's fight is off for this weekend. To bad I thought it would be nice to see him knocked stiff." Boxer Anthony Fowler stated on Twitter, "Alls i know is tyson fury will be absolutely gutted that chisora has pulled out, how has he managed to damage his hand so late??? Joke that."

Curtis Woodhouse stated, "Got to feel for Tyson fury, training camp after training camp, no fight means no wages, boxing can be a cruel game #ChisoraFury2." This is why it is important for boxers to have good managers who can pursue endorsements and sponsorships as a secondary source of income in the event their careers have a hiatus due to injury or other unforeseen reasons (see article links below for further information).

I see reality stars, some of whom have no talent, pull in $500,000 and higher per year in endorsements, appearance fees, DVD sales and book deals. There's no reason boxers with talent cannot do the same to supplement their incomes (provided they keep their image clean and marketable).

In other news, Fury wants to fight American boxing sensation, Deontay Wilder, who is a big hitter. Wilder has a 30-0 record all by knockouts. Watching Wilder's knock out reel reveals he is a force to be reckoned with. 

Fury originally wanted to fight world champion, Wladimir Klitschko, after the title eliminator fight against Chisora, but believes the fight with Klitschko will not happen. Fury believes Klitschko would rather vacate the title than fight him. Last week before the fight was postponed, I suggested Fury revamp his image and hire a sports law firm to pitch the fight to Klitschko, as I think it would be a good one.

After much speculation, NBA basketball player, Lebron James, has returned home to Cleveland, Ohio, leaving the Miami Heat basketball team. James has resigned with the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team, after four successful years with the Miami Heat, which yielded two championships. It was a fruitful partnership that made James a legend and brought the Miami Heat's championship tally up to three.

 

When James left Cleveland, there was an uprising and property damage. Now that he has left Miami, some are upset, but the anger is nowhere near the level it was in Cleveland four-years ago, most likely due to the fact it is not his hometown. 

Such is the nature of sports. Athletes come and go. This is how it has always been. Sports is a business. People and teams will do what's best for them. Here's wishing James and the Miami Heat well.

Will Shantel Jackson Do A Tell All On Floyd Mayweather Now That She’s Lost The Luxury Lifestyle She Had With Him

After being dumped by boxer Floyd Mayweather, his former fiancee, Shantel Jackson, tweeted on Twitter that her circle of friends has become smaller. So has her funds. Will she take the desperate, disloyal route, that some gold diggers do, in divulging the private details of a celebrity’s life in a book or interview for pay, when the relationship has come to an end. 

The first class lifestyle Jackson had with Mayweather is no longer there. Jackson is the type, who loves money and luxury. She’s not the type of woman who will easily go back to a low budget lifestyle cold turkey. She's going to try to find another rich guy and as she loves the spotlight, a famous one as well. Mayweather was publicly saying he was going to get Jackson a career and make her famous. 

Jackson loved the attention that came with dating Mayweather. She was always cockily posing in pics and videos, pushing herself forward, wanting the world to see her with the famous, wealthy boxer. Her body language and facial expressions are not the look a woman has when she is in love and proud to be standing next to the man she loves. It’s the look money hungry, publicity seeking gold diggers get when standing next to the golden goose, who could potentially make them rich and famous.

Jackson was hanging in there with Mayweather for a big payday. However, something went wrong and they broke up. Furthermore, she cheated on Mayweather and he doesn’t play when it comes to that. If he is going to financially keep you, he expects you to keep your legs shut to other men or he will become upset. Mayweather and Jackson kept breaking up and getting back together, which is a sign something is wrong. He was looking at her looks and she was looking at his money, which has been growing. 

Any woman who truly cares about you isn’t always inquiring about and talking about money and material things and how much money you’ve made or think you will make. That’s someone sizing up your bank account to see how much of it they can get. Jackson knows how much money Mayweather has and how much his contract with Showtime is potentially worth, once all his fights are completed. That's what she's been after. No one deserves to be used for their money or fame.

Manny Pacquiao Calls Out Floyd Mayweather As The One Delaying The Highly Anticipated Boxing Match Between The Two (Video)

Well-liked boxer Manny Pacquiao did an interview with Regis Philbin recently and responded to a question about fighting popular champion Floyd Mayweather in the ring. Pacquiao stated the hold up is not on his end. The Filipino star squarely pointed the finger at the champ, stating he is ready to fight Mayweather, who he deems is stalling. 

*Reverse psychology* Oooh, Floyd, Manny just tried you! Yes sir, he did. Are you gonna let him talk about you like that! What about the street code and defending your honor. Are you really going to take that from Manny. Fight him…but accidentally in a ring…with cameras accidentally rolling…piped into pay-per-view so the rest of us can watch (LOL). Hey, if the reverse psychology doesn’t work, I am not above whining and begging. Yea, I’m dignified like that. 

Seriously, a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao would produce interesting results. Mayweather is a Picasso in the ring. Mayweather, with his perfect record, likes to toy with boxers, proverbially spanking them in the ring, while taking them to school. It’s like watching a crocodile tenderize its prey. You know it’s not gonna end well. However, Manny is really fast and very skilled as well. What would happen if in a moment unaware, Pacquiao knocks out Floyd. It could happen. Only one way to find out...
