Adrien Broner Scores Controversial Win Over Ashley Theophane

Ashley Theophane and Adrien Broner

Troubled boxer, Adrien Broner, 26, scored a 9th round stoppage over underdog, Ashley Theophane, 35, in Washington, DC this past Friday night. Broner hit Theophane with a low blow to his genitals, which caused him to put his hands up and hunch over. The referee misinterpreted it and in a controversial decision being slammed on social networking, gave Broner the stoppage. Theophane tried to explain to the referee he was not asking for the fight to be stopped. However, the referee refused to listen, ending the bout prematurely.

While Broner did dominate for much of the fight, you never know, Theophane may have scored a knock out, clipping him when he was momentarily off guard. Theophane did not look to be in mortal danger. Therefore, the fight could have continued. Maybe Broner will give him a rematch, but he doesn't usually extend that offer to opponents he has already fought.

Photos from the Broner v. Theophane fight

How did Broner dominate in this fight? Broner took out his rage for former mentor, Floyd Mayweather, on the latter's protégé, Theophane. It was like Broner snapped and kept picturing Mayweather instead of Theophane in the ring. It was like a case of sibling rivalry gone wild. Broner is exhibiting signs of jealousy and abandonment, as Mayweather, who once took Broner under his wing as his heir apparent, has embraced Theophane and Gervonta Davis instead as his new boxing protégés, signing both to Mayweather Promotions.

Broner was signed to rival Golden Boy Promotions, but has now started his own company, About Billions. Mayweather understandably put his boxer's signed to Mayweather Promotions first. Broner was genuinely hurt and tearful about comments Mayweather made criticizing his lifestyle and the negative attention it attracted. This was his motivation for fighting the way he did during the Theophane bout.

Broner v. Theophane fight

On the under card, 21-year-old newbie Davis won his fight against Guillermo Avila in convincing fashion, unleashing a flurry of shots that won him a TKO in the 6th round. Davis has a lot of potential and exhibits a steady tenacity in finishing opponents in the ring [Boxer Adrien Broner On The Verge Of Tears Slams Former Mentor Floyd Mayweather (Video)]. The Davis v. Avila fight was a clean finish in what was a clear cut win.

It was another story regarding the Broner vs. Theophane fight. It was not a clean win for Broner, who had already drawn criticism from fight fans for failing to make weight for the fight. Broner missed the 140 pound limit, weighing in at 140.4, whereas Theophane accurately made weight. Broner was given 2-hours to shed the additional weight, but didn't even bother to return to be weighed again.

Broner v. Theophane fight

As a result, Broner, was stripped of his WBO belt. Even with his win last night, the title still remains vacant, meaning he is not the champion. All over .4 pounds which is being interpreted by many online, who have voiced the opinion in articles and on social networking that Broner is not taking his job as a boxer seriously.

In past fights, Broner was apparently training at Pizza Hut (LOL) as he posted a photo of himself eating fast food and bloated, which you can only do to limited degrees when not in training camp (this led to boxer Marcos Maidana beating the hot wings and pepperoni right out of Broner in the former's win). It's a shame that Broner does not take his job more seriously, as the Judiciary Report has maintained for years that he has boxing talent (credit where credit is due).

Adrien Broner being fed fast food by his fiancée in 2014

In a tweet on the website Twitter, I stated two weeks before the fight that Broner looked too big for the bout. Broner didn't look out of shape. The muscle definition was there. However, he was top heavy. Broner's torso was too big for his weight class and as a result, 2-weeks ago he did not look like a lightweight boxer. Broner looked more like a middleweight. Broner was also retaining water in the face and torso, clearly due to alcoholism (Broner was arrested and convicted of drunk driving last year and sentenced to 6-months probation and community service).

My tweet on Twitter 2-weeks prior to Adrien Broner not making weight, being stripped of his title and fined $50,000

Broner's trainer was unable to fully correct this issue in time for the fight, as Broner did not make weight, resulting in him being stripped of his title, as mentioned above. Broner's eyes have also been looking very sad and troubled these past few weeks, due to personal and legal issues outside the ring:

Adrien Broner

Theophane is also a good boxer, but I would like to see him increase his punching power. Theophane needs an expansion of his punching power. There are exercises one can do, focusing on the center of balance and inertia coupled with resistance, in pulling up punches, especially from one's core, then firing them off. Then after much practice, it becomes instinctive. Athlete who perform on instinct have better results in play.

For failing to make weight, Broner had to paid Theophane $50,000 in order for the fight to continue as scheduled. Therefore, Theophane will get his purse plus the additional $50,000. Not bad for a night's work (that was actually months of hard work work).

In the month leading up to the fight, I watched training videos posted online for both Theophane and Broner. Theophane worked much harder than Broner and put way more into training camp. I am of the belief, Theophane, put too much into the training camp and it took its toll. By fight night he looked exhausted before the first bell had even sounded. He looked anemic in the days leading up to the fight due to his rigorous roadwork and overall hectic training schedule. I'm my humble opinion, the road work, sparring sessions, conditioning and strength training went to excess.

Ashley Theophane ran for many miles in the Nevada mountains on a regular basis in preparation for the fight

A few days before the fight Theophane posted a photo of him running many miles and he looked gaunt. He also appeared emotionally drained from the training camp and comments being made, as from the outset he was the underdog and received a significant amount of taunting from Broner, those in his camp and his rival's fans. He took it to heart and you can't afford to do that. In boxing, such taunts are a mind game.

Theophane is to be commended for his gargantuan effort. However, Mayweather in the last couple years of his career commented on "training smarter" in relation to camp being less strenuous in certain ways, but more effective. A balance needs to be struck regarding many boxers and what goes into training camp, so they don't overdo it and harm their hearts. This is especially true for heavyweights, as they are larger, tend to lift massive weights and do road work, all of which can overwork the heart, creating damage.

At the end of the bout Broner called out Mayweather for a fight. This led to Mayweather laughing till he cried (and on camera). Broner was also laughed at and booed by the crowd, then mocked on social networking for his comments regarding fighting Mayweather. Ironically, Broner also stated he grew up poor eating "cornflakes and water" which was the same thing Theophane had stated about himself months prior.

50 Cent's Top Boxer James Kirkland Is Leaving His Boxing Promotions Company Leading To The Rapper Dodging His Calls

That's Not Professional 50 Cent!

50 Cent posing in front of an economy car after filing for bankruptcy

An attorney for boxer James Kirkland has made public the pugilist's desire to leave SMS boxing promotions, the company owned by rapper 50 Cent. Kirkland's attorney Mike Miller stated to the Boxing Scene website, "We're just trying to get in touch with 50's bankruptcy attorney. He won't return our phone calls to figure out what plans they have for James Kirkland. Our contract is un-assignable so he can't assign our contract to a new company or anybody else. Really I don't know what leg they have to stand on to retain our contract. I don't want to waste a hundred twenty days to find out. I'm trying to get some dialogue going to see if we can reach a mutual agreement that Kirkland goes his way and 50 goes his way and we both move on."

50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, recently filed for bankruptcy on two fronts. 50 Cent filed for personal bankruptcy, as well as for his fledgling company SMS. This means boxers could experience significant difficulties getting paid by SMS, if at all, as bankruptcy protection can wipe out some debts, such as what 50 Cent's company owes fighters. They could end up fighting and not getting paid the purse or not receiving money due to them for past fights.

Canelo Alvarez, 50 Cent and his boxer James Kirkland

Hanging around Floyd Mayweather, who is the richest boxer in the world, had 50 Cent thinking the boxing industry is easy with huge paydays all over the place. However, the actual reality of the sport is it requires years of hard work, patience, skill and a keen understanding of the business. It is not an easy one.

Promoters also need good instincts, not just for business, but in fight making. Not only should you be able to scout and sign great talent, you also do not put your boxer in fights they are clearly not ready for. I love boxers, God bless them, they are brave and fearless, but sometimes some pugilists will be on the "I'll fight anybody, anywhere at any time" vibe and you kindly look at them and think, "No, boo boo, you're not ready yet (LOL)." It's not an insult, it's skill matching, paired with assessing the mental and physical state of your fighter at the time.

50 Cent

A good promoter can tell such things. A novice will not be able to tell. And 50 Cent is a novice, as he put Kirkland in with boxing beast Canelo Alvarez and it damaged his career and confidence, when the latter unleashed a potent knockout. However, Kirkland and Alvarez are great fighters and it is not an insult to either. Sometimes boxers are at a bad place in their personal lives and or struggling with injury and it negatively impacts their performance in the ring. Kirkland was experiencing personal problems, changes and injury. He didn't need such a huge fight after all those problems and a layoff.

In closing, if you're a boxer and have the opportunity to sign with a big, experienced boxing promotions company such as Top Rank, Golden Boy, Mayweather Promotions, Matchroom or Frank Warren or get the chance to work with a veteran manager like Al Haymon, do so. Make sure you sign with people who know boxing or you will have problems and not reach your full potential in the ring or at the bank.

Side Bar: Why doesn't Lennox Lewis have a boxing promotions company. He was world champ, knows how to win and made a fortune as a boxer. He knows the ropes (pardon the pun).

WBO Strips Floyd Mayweather Of The Belt He Won In Manny Pacquiao Fight

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather after historic May 2, 2015 fight

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has stripped boxer Floyd Mayweather of the welterweight belt he won in his bout against Manny Pacquiao, in what is the most lucrative fight in boxing history. Mayweather failed to vacate the title he holds by the stipulated deadline. Mayweather also failed to pay the required $200,000 sanctioning fee to the WBO. Mayweather holds world titles in multiple weight classes with the WBO, WBC and WBA, which is forbidden. Hence being stripped of the WBO title. Initially, Mayweather stated he would vacate the titles, but changed his mind or was too busy counting the estimated $300,000,000 he made from the Pacquiao fight (LOL).

The WBO stated, "The WBO has the utmost respect for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and all that he has accomplished during his storied career. Mr. Mayweather has always agreed with and understood that world championships have both privileges and responsibilities and that status as WBO champion is subject to and conditioned on compliance with the WBO rules and regulations."

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao

Mayweather Promotion's CEO Leonard Ellerbe stated, "It's a complete disgrace. Floyd will decide what, or if any, actions he will take. But in the meantime he's enjoying a couple of hundred million he made from his last outing and this has zero impact on anything he does. Floyd Mayweather has a great deal of respect for each and every organization, as he has always had in his 19-year career, but he will not be dictated to by any organization or person as it relates to his decision making."

In related news, Mayweather has not announced who his next opponent will be, but he is expected to fight again shortly. Pacquiao has not announced his next opponent either, but stated he hopes to fight in 2016, after his arm has healed from a torn ligament injury he had surgically repaired. A rematch between these two top boxers would be very interesting.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. stripped of WBO welterweight title

The WBO stripped pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather of his welterweight world title on Monday for his failure to comply with the organization's rules. Mayweather claimed the WBO welterweight title when he outpointed Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in a 147-pound unification fight that shattered all financial records for a boxing match, including total gross, pay-per-view subscriptions, closed circuit revenue, live gate, foreign television sales and sponsorships.

Mayweather, who holds two other alphabet welterweight world titles, missed the 4:30 p.m. ET Friday deadline by which he had to pay a $200,000 sanctioning fee from the May 2 fight (for which he earned more than $220 million) and vacate the two junior middleweight titles he also holds.

"The WBO world championship committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title for failing to comply with our WBO regulations of world championship contests," the WBO wrote Monday in its resolution. It is against sanctioning organization rules for boxers to hold world titles in multiple weight classes. The WBC and WBA had been breaking their own rules by allowing Mayweather to hold their titles, but the WBO upheld its rules...

Manny Pacquiao Confirms He'll Fight Again, Questions Floyd Mayweather's Antics

Jul 8, 2015 - Manny Pacquiao has confirmed he will return to the ring in 2016, giving himself ample time to recover from the torn rotator cuff injury he suffered during the defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2. The Filipino isn't impressed with Mayweather's actions since the fight and believes the release of a recent video—in which Pretty Boy goads Pacquiao's injury—doesn't show the composure of a respectable leader for the sport.

"I'm ready to fight, next year. I'm fine," Pacquiao told Viva.co.id (h/t Sky Sports). Although his return will likely prove too late to face Mayweather again—with Money's final bout likely to be scheduled for September—Pacquiao had some advice for the American brawler. "A real champion is gracious in both his words and conduct, someone who is a champion, not just in his chosen field of endeavour but in his own home and in his private life," he said, per PhilBox.com (h/t Sky Sports)...

Adrien Broner Apologizes To Jay Z And Rihanna For Profane Tirade But Does Not Retract His Claims About Them

Warning: video contains explicit language

Successful boxer, Adrien Broner, has apologized for telling off rapper Jay Z and his artist, Rihanna, in a profanity laced tirade [Boxer Adrien Broner Says F**k Jay Z, Rihanna And Her P***y After The Rapper Pimps Her Out Again (Video)]. The rapper is trying to becoming a boxing manager and promoter and doesn't know what he is doing. Jay Z does not know how to find unknowns and turn them into champs, as he does not know what to look for, so he's going around unethically stealing other people's established star athletes, in conduct being viewed very negatively by managers and promoters, who are angry and offended. That's not how you do business. It is disgraceful and bad form. Jay Z has no honor or sense of decency and fairness.

Managers and promoters are angry over Jay Z using illegal and deceitful tactics in trying to steal and in some cases, stealing their clients they paid money to develop. It's a foul, dishonest and criminal way to do business that is going to culminate into a disaster and scandal. Jay Z has been using his music artists, Rihanna and Rita Ora, pimping them out to athletes (sex) as incentive to sign with Roc Nation Sports, a rip off company he slapped his name on. Some of the athletes have wives or girlfriends, but that hasn't stopped devious, destructive Jay Z's foul conduct in this regard. Broner has a pregnant fiancée. He is using other illegal incentives as well.

Jay Z and Rihanna

Broner told off Jay Z stating he can "suck my d***" and that Rihanna is only good for "p***y" and to stop sending his employees up to him, rather than coming up to him as a man. Jay Z made Broner an insultingly low offer to join Roc Nation Sports, offering a deal he states is worth $40,000,000 over 5-years. Broner is one of the top boxers in America and can earn $20,000,000 per year. Signing Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports deal would cost him $60,000,000 over the next 5-years.

Broner has apologized for telling Jay Z to "suck my d***" after the former crack cocaine dealer, who has a penchant for employing violent thugs and threatening people, even women, came down on him for the mini-scandal his comments created (Jay Z and his wife, Beyonce, whom he regularly cheats on, quickly released a beach photo implying she is pregnant as PR distraction from the bad publicity Broner's comments brought on them). However, Broner has not retracted his statements.

Jay Z and Rita Ora

Jay Z knows nothing about sports management or boxing promoting and is going to end up damaging athletes' careers and bringing terrible government and public scrutiny on them, along with himself, when his behind the scenes criminal conduct is exposed. Athletes need to be very careful of Jay Z, as he is lying to them about what he is really up to and what it is going to cost them. Stay with and or sign with established, knowledgeable managers and promoters, who know what they are doing. Avoid Roc Nation.

Side Bar: if Broner is going to sign with anyone else, it should be Floyd Mayweather's Mayweather Promotions. Mayweather knows boxing and has helped Broner a lot over the years, taking him under his wing. Mayweather refers to Broner as his unofficial little brother and Broner calls him his big brother. Mayweather helped Broner when he didn't have to. Friends do that for each other. Stick with the people who have been good to you. Don't go with an idiot upstart, who doesn't know what he is doing and is greedily seeking to exploit you.

50 Cent Cruelly Mocks Floyd Mayweather's Reading Abilities When Many People Struggle With Illiteracy (Video)

Rapper 50 Cent, former friend of world champion lightweight boxer, Floyd Mayweather, constantly attacks the pugilist on social networking and in interviews out of pure jealousy. 50 Cent has been lusting after Mayweather's fiancée, turned ex-fiancée, Shantel Jackson, for years. 50 Cent, not a boxing expert, even started a boxing promotions company modeled after Floyd's successful, multi-million dollar grossing Mayweather Promotions.

50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather, the highest grossing athlete in the world, with an estimated fortune of $400,000,000, has largely ignored 50 Cent's attacks, but they've become quite personal, provoking a response (see Mayweather's tweet below stating "Read this. God bless" and a copy of two of his checks totaling $72,000,000). 50 Cent went on the radio and aided radio personality Charlemagne in mocking Mayweather's reading abilities.

Nelly and Shantel Jackson

It was cruel and inappropriate. The thing that's most harmful about the taunting is it will discourage others with reading difficulties from getting tutoring or going back to school. I have friends and family who've tutored people who've struggled with reading and mathematics. The tutoring makes a difference. Going back to school has also proven helpful to many who cannot read or do mathematics.

Floyd Mayweather's tweet addressing 50 Cent's insults

Months prior to this incident, the Judiciary Report sincerely stated Mayweather's protégé, Adrien Broner, should spend some of his winnings on education. No matter who you are in life, you can always learn something new. Let it be an ongoing process.

Beyonce And Jay Z's Brand Takes A Hit From Elevator Fight Scandal With Solange Leaving Publicists Scrambling To Do Damage Control

In the face of a plethora of stories speculating on what triggered the sensational fight between disgraced rapper, Jay Z and his sister-in-law Solange Knowles, while her sister, Beyonce, stood by and approvingly watched with a smile, the couple's brand has taken a massive hit. Their publicists have been scrambling planting stories in the mainstream press and blogosphere in trying to clean up a PR disaster.

Beyonce and Jay Z's publicists floated a story that Solange and the rapper were spotted jewelry shopping at the store, Mr. Flawless, but shortly after the claims were slammed when it was revealed undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather, was the one at the jeweler (Mayweather needs to sign Solange and her feet and fists of fury to his boxing company Mayweather Promotions).

When Beyonce and Jay Z made an appearance at the Heat vs. Nets game on Monday night, with their best plastered on frozen smiles, the public did not buy it, with social network stating they are just saving face and keeping up appearances.

Posts on Instagram by Beyonce, done on the instruction of her record label and publicist, released online to show a united front, have failed to convince the public all is well with Solange, Beyonce, Jay Z and the rapper's mistress Rihanna, after the elevator fight. Posts their publicists made to blog feedback sections did nothing to quell public speculation that Beyonce and Jay Z's marriage is in trouble due to his cheating with women like Rihanna.

This scandal has caused Jay Z's stock to plummet and damaged Beyonce's brand as well. Men with a similar cheating mindset would laud Jay Z online for adulterously having sex with Rihanna, in addition to his wife. Now these men have gone quiet on social networking, due to the fact their immoral role model has spectacularly fallen.

Decent men and women who've watched Jay Z embarrass his wife chasing after other women, have expressed no sympathy for him online over Solange's physical attack and his punk like reaction to it. He wasn't a punk for not hitting a woman back (for once).

Jay Z, who brags he is a hardcore rapper, looked like a punk in the shaken, female-like expression he had on his face after Solange beat him up. The Judiciary Report does not encourage or espouse violence, but the site has no sympathy for Jay Z in this matter. Right is right and wrong is wrong. It's high time certain stars like Jay Z stop setting a bad example for the public regarding cheating.

One of my sources responsible for some of my site exclusives that have consistently proven true and correct informed me, it was someone in the so-called Illuminati/Kabbalah Jay Z is apart of that arranged for the tape of him being beaten in the elevator to be released to the public via their gossip blog TMZ.

Someone in the sect is angry with Jay Z over flagrant behavior via bad business dealings he has been engaging in, drawing attention of the feds. It was done as a warning shot and make no mistake, they have more dirty on Jay Z and enough to ruin him (ironically, so do the feds).

Floyd Mayweather Gives Amir Khan A Peace Offering Putting Him On Boxing Undercard

Floyd Mayweather

British boxer Amir Khan’s perseverance has paid off. The world’s most famous boxer in competition, Floyd Mayweather, scrapped a fan poll result stating he should fight Khan next, choosing Argentinean Marcos Maidana in his stead. Khan went ballistic on Twitter like he was on "The Real Housewives Of Atlanta" when he found out what Mayweather had done. Amir was acting black on Twitter. Though he's not black, Amir had a black moment during that meltdown. For real Amir, you were on Twitter telling everybody off (LOL). I’m just saying…

Amir Khan

This week, Mayweather has made a gesture in the way of making it up to him by including Khan on the undercard of his highly anticipated May 3, 2014 bout, which will give Amir the type of opportunity and exposure he seeks. Khan is scheduled to fight the exciting New York born Puerto Rican boxer, Luis Collazo, who has a good record, in what will be an interesting match up. Tickets for the fight, which began at $350.00 each, sold out within minutes. After the first few minutes of the tickets going on sale, the Ticketmaster website basically clowned you with a "searching" graphic, politely telling you to kick rocks, the event is sold out.

Luis Collazo

Khan had been offered $5,000,000 by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing to fight fellow Brit, Kell Brook, who is undefeated. Khan turned it down, while waiting for Mayweather. However, Khan can still fight Brook in London after the Collazo fight, giving the British people what they want. Matchroom’s Froch vs. Groves sold out within an hour, as 50,000 people snapped up the tickets. Therefore, there’s a strong British boxing market the Mancunian from Bolton, England could benefit from.

Floyd Mayweather And Amir Khan's War Of Words Over Cancelled Fight

Floyd Mayweather: I'm gonna bust you up over what you did to my homie Adrien (Broner)

Floyd Mayweather has gone on record regarding his planned May 3, 2014 Las Vegas fight against Marcos Maidana. Mayweather stated, "Marcos Maidana's last performance immediately brought him to my attention. He is an extremely skilled fighter who brings knockout danger to the ring. I think this is a great fight for me and he deserves the opportunity to see if he can do what 45 others have tried to do before him - beat me."

Amir Khan

Maidana stated, "I am extremely happy to be facing Floyd Mayweather because it will give me the opportunity to show the world that I am the best welterweight in the division. I just handed a great defensive fighter his first loss and I plan to do the same to Mayweather. I don't care whether he's the best and undefeated. I will bring some real Latino power to him on May 3rd."

Marcos Maidana

However Amir Khan, the winner of the fan vote, who was overlooked in favor of Maidana, confirmed he did win the poll, had signed a contract with Mayweather Promotions and has lost money waiting on the champ. Khan had turned down a December 2013 fight against Devon Alexander, costing him money in light of Mayweather canceling the fight with him. However, Khan has been offered $5,000,000 to fight fellow Briton, Kell Brook. The offer was issued by British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn. It's a decent offer for a good payday, especially considering Khan has a baby on the way. He must plan for his future, as does any athlete. In response to Mayweather's announcement, Khan stated:

Following the announcement by Floyd Mayweather that he will be facing Marcos Maidana on May 3rd I would like to clarify my situation for my fans and members of the media. Despite having signed my part of the agreement to fight Floyd in early December, I’ve been preparing myself for some time that the match up with him wasn’t going to happen, as I announced on Twitter a few days ago. Therefore, this announcement did not come as a surprise.

I am, however, very disappointed with Floyd and his team for not providing any explanation as to why he delayed the announcement for so long and ultimately avoided the fight with me. Clarification, if he was not fighting me, would have allowed me to look over my options and pursue another path, rather than the ultimate delay to my career this has caused. It has been a very frustrating period as I’d been due to fight in December against Devon Alexander, however, I was strongly advised to not take this fight as I would be facing Floyd this May – and therefore signed my side of the contract on this belief.

Floyd was keen to engage with the fans and so decided to let them choose who he should fight in his next bout. I clearly won his official poll, by a significant margin, but for unknown reasons he decided to ignore the fans vote and failed to keep his word. Disappointing many fight fans who took the time to vote. I genuinely wish Marcos and Floyd all the best for their fight – two great fighters. As a team we have now moved on and are looking at different options.

I’ve been training very hard since my last fight. I’m a fighter who wants to face the very best out there and have never ducked any opponent. I’m focused and ready for my next outing - we currently have a few options on the table at the moment and my team are working alongside Golden Boy Promotions to announce my next fight within the next 10 days. I can’t wait to get back in the ring and am determined to put on a great show for my loyal fans who have waited a long time to see me back in action – and I’m very excited about what’s yet to come this year. Thank you for all your continued support.”

Floyd Mayweather: Marcos Maidana is an extremely skilled and dangerous fighter

Tuesday, 25 February 2014 - AFTER weeks of speculation, Floyd Mayweather at last confirmed that he will take on Marcos Maidana in a welterweight unification showdown on May 3... "In Marcos Maidana, Floyd Mayweather may be in for his toughest opponent ever," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "Maidana is the type of fighter who will find out if Floyd still belongs on top of the pound-for-pound list. He's strong, tough and aggressive. He in giving Adrien Broner his first loss, he showed that he won't be intimidated by talk, a big fight atmosphere or an unbeaten record. I give Floyd a lot of credit for stepping up to the plate and testing himself once again. He is a true warrior, and the fans will be the winners on May 3rd."

Floyd Mayweather Announces He Will Fight Marcos Maidana Not Amir Khan

Floyd Mayweather

Reigning champ Floyd Mayweather made an announcement via Twitter last night, stating he will fight fellow boxer Marcos Maidana, not Amir Khan. Initial reports by Khan and other sources stated he had won the fan vote Mayweather posted on his website, defeating competition Maidana with the large percent of votes (Will Floyd Mayweather Stick To His Promise And Fight Amir Khan).

Marcos Maidana beat Floyd Mayweather's then undefeated protégé Adrien Broner (*in Rocky voice* "Adriennnn")

However, Khan, who had signed a contract with Mayweather Promotions last year, before the poll was announced, began to express his displeasure at no formal announcement regarding the fight with the champ. Newspapers, magazines and blogs picked up the public disagreement, via the war of words between the two and it became a controversy.

Floyd Mayweather announced the Marcos Maidana fight last night

I'd favored Khan for the fight, as Maidana is said to be under investigation by the Texas Boxing Commission [Floyd Mayweather Asks Fans To Decide Who He Should Fight Next Amir Khan Or Marcos Maidana But There's A Problem... (Video)]. However, I'd heard something on February 15, 2014 from someone i trust that the Khan bout was "cancelled" by Mayweather. So, on February 16, 2014 I tweeted this at Mayweather:

Previously in 2010, Khan defeated Maidana, proving he is a more deserving opponent of the Mayweather fight. However, Mayweather was not fond of the terms of the fight with Khan and also wants to avenge his boxing brother, Adrien Broner, whom Maidana beat, taking his zero, as the boxer was previously undefeated:

Manny Pacquiao Calls Out Floyd Mayweather As The One Delaying The Highly Anticipated Boxing Match Between The Two (Video)

Well-liked boxer Manny Pacquiao did an interview with Regis Philbin recently and responded to a question about fighting popular champion Floyd Mayweather in the ring. Pacquiao stated the hold up is not on his end. The Filipino star squarely pointed the finger at the champ, stating he is ready to fight Mayweather, who he deems is stalling.

*Reverse psychology* Oooh, Floyd, Manny just tried you! Yes sir, he did. Are you gonna let him talk about you like that! What about the street code and defending your honor. Are you really going to take that from Manny. Fight him…but accidentally in a ring…with cameras accidentally rolling…piped into pay-per-view so the rest of us can watch (LOL). Hey, if the reverse psychology doesn’t work, I am not above whining and begging. Yea, I’m dignified like that.

Seriously, a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao would produce interesting results. Mayweather is a Picasso in the ring. Mayweather, with his perfect record, likes to toy with boxers, proverbially spanking them in the ring, while taking them to school. It’s like watching a crocodile tenderize its prey. You know it’s not gonna end well. However, Manny is really fast and very skilled as well. What would happen if in a moment unaware, Pacquiao knocks out Floyd. It could happen. Only one way to find out...

Side Bar: Am I the only one who thinks Pacquiao looks a bit like Bruce Lee.
