Degrading NWA Biopic Casting Call Reveals The Prejudices Within The Black Community

Members of NWA and the cast and crew of forthcoming biopic "Straight Outta Compton"

Recently, a horrible casting call went out for women to appear in the forthcoming biopic "Straight Outta Compton" about the California rap group NWA. The ignorant, self-hating descriptions in the casting call left many people offended. It is as follows:

A GIRLS: These are the hottest of the hottest. Models. MUST have real hair — no extensions, very classy looking, great bodies. You can be black, white, asian, hispanic, mid eastern, or mixed race too. Age 18-30.”

“B GIRLS: These are fine girls, long natural hair, really nice bodies. Small waists, nice hips. You should be light-skinned. Beyonce is a prototype here. Age 18-30.”

“C GIRLS: These are African American girls, medium to light skinned with a weave. Age 18-30.”

“D GIRLS: These are African American girls. Poor, not in good shape. Medium to dark skin tone. Character types. Age 18-30.”

When I was a teen, I read an article in an African American magazine about the term "colorstruck." It is in reference to some, not all, black people, who glorify light skin and curly hair and disparage dark skin and kinky hair. At its root are ignorant stereotypes and prejudices within the black community worldwide, held by some, not all black people.

What's ironic is black people who believe light skin is better than dark skin and curly hair is better than kinky hair are deluded and self-hating. Any black person, I don't care how mixed the individual is, who lives or has ever lived had ancestors with very dark skin and kinky hair. Anyone with even a drop of black blood in them had such ancestors. It's sad that men and women, who come from a long line of black women are engaging in this self-hate.

Recently, I ordered an electronic skincare product for hair removal. The telephone representative, who was white, talked about different skin tones best for the product and described Halle Berry, Alicia Keys and Rihanna as "dark" people the product would work on, when most black people deem them light. He wasn't being prejudice, but to him, a white man, they are dark (some white people are "porcelain" hued). Yet in the black community, there are ignorant prejudices regarding light and dark skinned blacks, when at the end of the day, light or dark, black is black.

Recently, I was looking at the fashion line of a black man and everyone of his models for every fashion campaign, both male and female, were mixed race or white. Not a single dark skinned black man or woman. This is ironic as the person behind the fashion line is not mixed, but a dark skinned man with African features. Yet, here he is repeatedly sending out the message that he worships mixed race and white looks, while denying and disregarding people of his own dark skin tone. Not to mention, he only dates mixed race women, who almost look white or white women. He doesn't like women who look like him in skin tone or facial features.

I have nothing against interracial dating. I would date and marry a person of another race. Though I am black, if it weren't for interracial marriage, I wouldn't be here, as many of my ancestors are of different races (three of my great-great grandfathers are white European males and one of my great-grandfathers was a Portuguese Indian man, among others).  However, at the same time, I respect, appreciate and promote every race, including my own, via my columns and other work I have written and copyrighted.

People need to learn to respect and appreciate every look. For example, women such as Halle Berry, Lupita Nyong'o, Megan Fox, Gisele Bundchen, Tamron Hall and Jessica White are all beautiful and cover every color/skin tone spectrum.

Rochelle Riley: N.W.A. casting call defining beauty backfires, reveals ugly side of Hollywood

12:54 PM, July 22, 2014  - There are still grown-ups who believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. They’re the same people who believe that violent, sexist rap music and blood- and murder-filled video games have absolutely no effect on kids. But let’s not talk about all kids for a second. Let’s talk just about the girls, especially young black girls. And let’s consider a Hollywood casting call that has caused outrage in circles across the country — because definitions of beauty affect kids, too.

A Los Angeles agency issued a call for Universal Picture’s upcoming “Straight Outta Compton,” the most anticipated rap film since “Eight Mile” and next to John Singleton’s upcoming “Tupac” biopic. “Compton” will recount the rise and roils of the rap group N.W.A. (look it up), whose members included the film’s producers Dr. Dre and Ice Cube.

Slated for an August 2015 release, the film has begun production. But the recent casting call for women broke my heart. It asked them to send in photos and information in four categories that you have to read for yourself:

■ “A GIRLS: These are the hottest of the hottest. Models. MUST have real hair — no extensions, very classy looking, great bodies. You can be black, white, asian, hispanic, mid eastern, or mixed race too. Age 18-30.”

■ “B GIRLS: These are fine girls, long natural hair, really nice bodies. Small waists, nice hips. You should be light-skinned. Beyonce is a prototype here. Age 18-30.”

■ “C GIRLS: These are African American girls, medium to light skinned with a weave. Age 18-30.”

■ “D GIRLS: These are African American girls. Poor, not in good shape. Medium to dark skin tone. Character types. Age 18-30.”

I read it and shuddered. I ached for those young women who would eagerly read the directions, then try to find themselves in those descriptions. I wondered, near tears, how girls who placed themselves in the D category would feel. I couldn’t decide whom to be madder at — Universal Pictures and the casting agency, which both have since apologized, or Ice Cube himself...

You see, I never liked Ice Cube. I didn’t listen to gangsta rap. Ice Cube was not a part of my world until he co-starred in John Singleton’s “Boyz in the Hood” and showed me he was capable of so much more than what I knew...

Lifetime's Casting For Unauthorized Whitney Houston Biopic Is Very Poor For A Film That Is Upsetting Her Family

Whitney Houston

Lifetime is on a strange string commissioning biopics on R&B singers in acts that do not bode well for names of the subjects of the movies. First Aaliyah, now Whitney Houston. It was announced that not only will Lifetime be doing an Aaliyah biopic titled "Aaliyah Princess of R&B" they are making a film on Whitney Houston's life as well. Hmm wonder where they got that idea from.

Yaya DaCosta cast as the lead in the Whitney Houston biopic

Whitney's family, particularly her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, is furious. Brown stated she and her mom thought she should play Houston in a film. Houston's family believes her life is deserving of a theatrical release, not a cable TV film. Looking at preproduction items released online, the casting for the Houston biopic is even worse than the work being done on the unauthorized movie on the life of the late singer Aaliyah. Actress Yaya DaCosta has been cast to play Houston and Yolondo Ross has been given the part of Houston's ex-girlfriend, Robyn Crawford.

Yolondo Ross cast as Houston's ex-girlfriend Robyn Crawford

Lifetime is not doing Houston or Aaliyah any justice with these cheesy, subpar films being made by people who do not truly know or understand their stories. They are not going to do a good job on these films. It will dishonor their legacies and memories. You shouldn't mess with people's lives like that.

As Predicted Lindsay Lohan’s Elizabeth Taylor Biopic 'Liz And Dick' Bombs

Lindsay Lohan in "Liz & Dick"

Earlier in the year, the Judiciary Report rubbished the idea of Lindsay Lohan playing the late actress Elizabeth Taylor in the biopic “Liz & Dick.” Well, the reviews are in from this past Saturday’s airing of the Lifetime made for TV movie and the reviews and ratings aren’t pretty. Lohan is reportedly devastated at the failure of the much hyped project.

Had Lifetime listened to me, Taylor’s legacy would be better off and the network would have more money in its pocket via advertisers. It was a bad idea casting Lohan. There are more deserving actresses out there who would not have brought the taint Lohan did to the project.

Megan Fox, who's not the best actress, would have done better in the project and resembles Taylor far more than Lohan, who doesn’t look like her at all. Lohan has lost much of her acting abilities (you would think lying to police so much would have kept Lohan’s acting skills intact, unlike her virginity - Lohan has been smashed more than scrap metal).

Ashton Kutcher Is A Poor Choice To Play Steve Jobs In Biopic

Steve Jobs

Kabbalah actor, Ashton Kutcher, has reportedly been cast in the role of Steve Jobs, in a forthcoming biopic on the late Apple computers founder, who died of cancer. Kutcher is a terrible choice to play jobs and will not do the role justice. He's the guy that starred in "Dude Where's My Car?" How can he be right for such a serious role.

Ashton Kutcher

Kutcher is not even considered by some to be a real actor, just a pretty boy, who's not that bright. You don't give someone a role because you think they slightly resemble the person the film is about. What about acting ability. This movie is not going to live up to Jobs' legacy in the computer world, with Kutcher as the star. Many people don't view him as a serious actor.

Lindsay Lohan Will Ruin Elizabeth Taylor Biopic Killing Its Credibility

People Do Not Want To See Lohan Playing Liz

Lindsay Lohan

Train wreck Lindsay Lohan has been confirmed to play the late actress, Elizabeth Taylor, in a biopic of her life, being produced by the Lifetime television network. Lohan got the role, because she, like Taylor, is in the Kabbalah cult. However, Lohan will ruin the film.

She does not look or sound like Taylor. Moreover, Lohan comes with so much baggage, the public is completely turned off from her so-called projects and do not wish to see them. Her name is in such a bad way right now, it will taint the movie. It will be a disaster.

Megan Fox Is Trying To Pay The Bills With New Handbag Ads

Has She Given Up On Acting

Megan Fox for MetroCity

Megan Fox has her goods on display in a new handbag ad for Metro City. The ads are too revealing. Since being fired from the "Transformers" films, Fox has done a number of endorsements to fatten her bank account. She has made millions doing so, trying to ensuring her botox supply will not be cut off, as it is not cheap. In other news, Fox has rendered no comment thus far on news "Transformers 4" will be casting shortly.

Will Steven Spielberg Break His Silence About Having Megan Fox Fired

Megan Fox

Will director, Steven Spielberg, break his silence about having actress, Megan Fox, fired from the "Transformers" film franchise. Spielberg, the film series' executive producer, ordered fellow Jewish director, Michael Bay, to give Fox the boot, for calling the latter "Hitler" in Wonderland magazine. Fox was fired and promptly replaced by Victoria Secret Model, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Steven Spielberg

Bay communicated this information to GQ magazine this past week. However, Spielberg has not expounded on his exact feelings on the matter, especially his reaction when it occurred and what it meant to him. It has become quite a controversy online and some additional information should be given.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Side Bar: Are they sure they know what they are doing with Fox's replacement Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. From the time the first Transformers 3 film still was released a year ago, the Judiciary Report stated, Whiteley looks uncomfortable and stressed (Megan Fox Replacement Looks Uncomfortable On Set).

Now that clips have been released from the film, all over the internet, the public is stating the same. Did Bay tell her to pose in the film like one of the mannequins at the Victoria Secret store (LOL). Seriously, the film will make money because of the robots, but clips of Whiteley's performance look forgettable. She is a pretty model, but not an actress and it shows. This is what happens when you let your penis do the casting.

Lindsay Lohan Offering Sex In Exchange For Roles

Lindsay Lohan

Fallen actress, Lindsay Lohan, 24, has so fallen out of favor with Hollywood, due to her multiple arrests and crazy Kabbalah induced behavior, I have it on very good authority, she has been offering sex to Hollywood executives and directors, men and women, in exchange for work. However, many of them are concerned about her sexual and mental health, given the desperate things she has done for drugs in the past.

Due to the fact Lohan is such a massive insurance risk, the word has been out on her in Hollywood that she is a money loser, not a cash cow. Studios agreed among each other to steer clear of her for any major roles. Lohan has been branded "uninsurable," "unreliable" and "difficult to work with" but has no clue as to what is being said behind her back. Then again, Lohan's mind is still in 2005 when she had a career and millions in the bank. Drugs are so cruel.

Megan Fox Replacement Nominated

Megan Fox

According to reports, "Transformers" director, Michael Bay, has replaced actress, Megan Fox, with Victoria Secret model, Rosie Huntington-Whitely.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely

The two worked together in December 2009, during a commercial for Victoria Secret, directed by Bay. She was allegedly recommended by director, Steven Spielberg, to fill in for Fox, who was fired.

Screencap from Michael Bay's website

The Judiciary Report does not think Rosie Huntington-Whitely is the right replacement for Fox. The cast of "Transformers" seem to be sad about the firing as well.
