The Walter Scott Murder Is A Reminder Police Officers Need Body Cameras

There is renewed call this week demanding police officers in America be fitted with body cameras, in the wake of the shooting death of 59-year-old civilian Walter Scott. Police Officer Michael Slager, unconscionably fired 8 shots at Scott, an unarmed black man, who was running away from him, fearing for his life.

5 of the 8 shots hit Scott, one piercing his heart and killing him. Slager planted the taser beside Scott’s dead body, seeking to frame him for theft and assault. A subsequent video of the killing led to Slager’s arrest. The video proves that body cameras would be useful and could stem the wave of police brutality.
