Update: 13 have now died and 30 remain injured

Tragedy struck today at the Fort Hood Army Base in Texas, where a major opened fire, killing 13 and injuring 30. The main suspect, who is in custody, is alleged to be U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a resident psychiatrist on the base.

Early, unconfirmed reports indicate, Hasan, a Muslim, was angry about the deaths occurring in the Middle East, due to U.S. occupation and upset about a pending deployment.

In a strange twist, Hasan, was a graduate of Virginia Tech, which also experienced a mass shooting that left many dead. It remains to be seen if Hasan was inspired by the mass shooting that occurred at the university.

My condolences to the families of the soldiers that were killed and deepest sympathies to those that have been injured.
