Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, got dangerously close to audiences at a rally and was assaulted by a mentally ill man as a result of it. The above posted footage shows the incident as it transpired.

Sometimes, it doesn't pay to be too open and accessible, as not everyone is safe to interact with in situations not easily secured. However, at least it didn't end in an assassination, as he was wide open.
