Today, the British government convicted a 15-year-old bully that relentlessly taunted a 14-year-old black girl for 6 months, with racial slurs such as "nig*er" "coon" and "golliwog." He chanted white power slogans at her as well.
The bullying and racial hatred so distressed the girl, she attempted suicide, taking an overdose of painkillers and anxiety pills, leaving her family a note stating she did not want a sad funeral. That is heartbreaking, but thank God she survived.
The 15-year-old boy now faces one year in a juvenile detention center. I do believe he should face legal punishment for his conduct, as she could have died.
Parents need to talk to their children, not just about racial equality, but bullying in general. Children must learn to agree to disagree with others and realize it is cruel to try to push others over the edge.
Children in many countries have committed suicide, because they were bullied at school for being of a minority race, a foreigner, too skinny or too fat or gay.
Schools also need to play a greater role in educating children on the terrible dangers of bullying others. School management and teachers are in the trenches and should do more to intervene when they witness said conduct. All over the world, so many people have ended up traumatized over school bullying and more must be done to stop it.
What I find stunning is parents who encourage this type of negative behavior at home. You better think twice about encouraging your child to slur, rough up and abuse others, as some misguided mark of respect. In this day an age, people won't sue your kid, but they will sue you.

School bully convicted of racial abuse
A SCHOOL bully who drove a 14-year-old girl to the brink of suicide has been convicted of racial harassment. The verdict against the 15-year-old thug was hailed last night as a legal landmark. It was believed to be the first time a pupil under 16 had been found guilty of the offence. His victim was subjected to six months of abuse.
It included chants of: "White, white, white is right, kick them out, fight, fight, fight" - taken from a film about football hooliganism.
She was also told: "Go back to your own country."
The girl endured her torment in silence - then decided to kill herself, taking stress pills and painkillers in January and writing a note telling her family she did not want a "sad funeral".
Lincoln magistrates' court heard that the girl was saved. But she told police: "I wanted to die because of everything that was happening at school.
"I thought, 'Do I want to do this?' And then I thought, 'Yes, I don't want to be here'." She and her family have moved away from the Lincoln area.
Emma-Jane Cross, of the charity Beatbullying, said: "The outcome of this trial sets a precedent, sending out a message to all school bullies - your taunting will not be tolerated."
Jaswant Narwal, chief Crown Prosecutor for Lincolnshire, said: "We would like to thank the victim for her courage in coming forward...
